This is a great update, and for previous owners of ... well, anything ... the upgrade prices are really attractive. An amazing number of presets for lazy guys like me, too...

I am a fan of OP-X since I first saw and heard it. Don't expect a neutral uncolored opinion from my side...
It's one of the plugins that convinced me even without effects. Now it has internal effects too and shows off it's full potential. There has been so much useful things added now that it's probably a classic "analogue" of it's own - and it simply sounds fantastic.
All OP-X are very close to the originals - I own a Matrix 6R and can compare. Sonic Projects perfectly captured the Oberheim spirit and put it into 21th century - making it available to all that never would be able to afford the originals like a legendary Matrix 12 who still sells for top prices and is hard to get at all.
Just to add I am old enough having touched a real Matrix 12 once in my life in a shop and still feel that spirit that this machine spread at it's time... It's maybe the same as with the Moog spirit where I am not old enough having experienced the same... LOL... Oh sorry, I get too nostalgic here...
Just can finish with: Love it or don't, but don't miss out trying it!

Peter obviously has an excellent musical ear, and OP-X is proof (if ever required) that this matters more than anything else when it comes to analogue synth emulation.
In my own opinion it's the best sounding analogue emulation out there today. Tonally it's just fantastic. I was a bit worried how the additional FX might have been applied to OP-X Pro II, since the real mark of OP-X was that it sounds great without any FX. But it's all done nicely and actually serves to enhance things really well.
Anyone who's on a Mac and loves analogue synths (particularly polysynths from the late 70's and early 80's) owes it to themselves to go through the extra step to get it running. Anyone who even slightly likes anything with the Oberheim name attached needs to try this and see how much of that sort of spirit lives in this virtual incarnation. Anyone who loves their presets only needs to stray as far as the mp3 demo page to hear the quality of what's on offer and just how many sounds there are of that standard. Anyone, who ever wondered what the difference between software analogue synth emulations and the hardware is, needs to hear what it means when someone understands those differences and has the ability to mimic them through musical tone in VST form.
This last point is important because many devs can talk the talk when it comes to things like DSP coding. Unfortunately their algos often don't walk the walk. Peter has the ears that they lack and, thanks to his and Jef McClintock's work, you're left with a musical instrument that really is a just that - Musical.
Anyone who dismisses this synth purely on the basis of Synthedit deserves to miss out..

thanks a lot
Btw, a big part of the patches still don't use any effects, just the ones that profitate from the effects, like solos, or some pads; most of the strings are all dry - and all effects can be immediatly switched of by just one button; so you can decide wheter you want to have effects or a completely dry patch; but if you need them they are there

+1, I have read people knocking this for having Synthedit used as part of the coding, Peter responded by saying "plus alot of C++ coding"(or something). Does it matter what he used to make the synth, it is the end result that counts! And the end result of OP-X is a really good sound before this update even!PAK wrote:Abyone who dismisses this synth purely on the basis of Synthedit deserves to miss out..
I'm having family time today, so haven't installed 'II' yet, but the new features(especially having sorted out the bank loading), presets, effects etc etc make this an even more go to synth for me, I've always liked it's sound...

Hi Peter,
I am on a Mac and so purchased the Reaktor version some years ago.
I've always loved the sound of it and so I have just been demoing
the new II version via VFX. If I wanted to purchase a full license
is my only upgrade path the $99 VFX option? I'm really enjoying the
sound of the fully coded version and I can clealy see what others have
been raving about. Great work!
Best regards,
Scott

Hi Scott
yes, atm it's the only option, if you only want the VFX Edition for mac; note that this one is 80% cheaper already than the standard version
There's a dedicated upgrade path to the combined VSTi/VFX version for OP-X Reaktor owners, but if you only need the VFX in mac then the VFX Edition is the cheaper go

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the prompt reply. Since the prices are good until
the end of the year, I'll put this on my short list of future
purchases. The more I listen to it the more impressed I am with
it and the updated features really add to it's value.
Cheers,
Scott

maybe we'll still add this upgrade option - there have been several requests for it so far
