There's a thread at the CM guitar forum about them and the guy behind these guitars has just joined to try and answer some of the more obvious questions/concerns http://www.musicradar.com/forum/showthr ... 598&page=4
site under construction
That's because the thread at CM turned into a total bitch-fest about these guitar/the guy behind them. In the time since I posted here it's grown from 4 pages to 14 and has degenerated from constructive critisism to out and out personal abuse of the guy, who remakably has remained polite and level headed no matter what the provocation by some of the most obnoxious members I've seen on any forum.

He's amending the site and hopes to have it back up and running when he meets the criteria laid down by the CM guitar forum clique-police, tho' to be fair, a few members have sprung to his defence, not so much about his percieved crimes, more about the way he's been treated there.

On a side note for those who now read this thread, it's civilised compared to the rabidly right wing political ravings often found in the OT forum there.
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.

Blimey them components did arrive fast Hink, bookmarked that site for future use possibly :) Great turnaround

Oh and i would say that pedals, amplification and anything else guitar related is on topic

Fiddling around with an ebow plus for a few days now, lots of fun (its been ages since i have done so its almost as good as new toy...almost)

this is another great site but it also includes amp parts, amp kits, and really specific items like 4 conducter pick-up wire, vintage clothe braided cables from a foot up with breaks for bulk,,,they even sell pick-up winding wire.

Bookmarked again - we have some similar stuff in the uk but not as in-depth as that one  that, guitardepot and warmoth = One could never have to buy pre-made instruments & amplifiers/pedals ever again. Everything could be a custom piece if desired for realistic money. I like that opinion/options :tu:

Nice one my friend and all the best

for pedals you know about these guys right?

Yep i do and useful they are/good call :)

I mean of course it is not neccessary to go the whole hog DIY and custom (minus the master luthier price tags :O ) but having the wealth of options is fantastic for tinkering types (before the internet it was squinting through the very small classified adverts in magazines and getting on the phone for a list/brouchure for this area :phew: which i know you will know and definately did do :D and ditto susiwong, Eric.D, Ian.B and so on). Would think a 'sticky' collecting all the links to these websites/peoples with maybe a quick line about what each one is extremely useful for resource wise, Since i think it would really help potential entusiasts get a good idea of what is available off of the beaten track (same as the modular synth folk have i am guessing/presuming) - Just a thought

Cheers and looking forward to the finished pics of your Hinkenstein as and when plus how you get on with the mick thompson blackouts (subjective of course but still interesting to me)

Oh i nearly forgot about this one, i was mere seconds away from dropping the hammer on the first version when it was released but i did not due to small tonal range/limited features so decided not to buy. However this one is much more usable and packs alot more useful features by the looks of things for a mini-amp head:

http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/I ... spx?Page=1

Its not on the Matamp website yet or available but mentioned as 'soon':

The orginal was the one which got me into the whole low-watt small valve amp head thing :)

Hey, quick question! Opinions about this Westone tele copy? I've tried one and so far I loved it. Felt surprisingly good quality for the price. Thoughts?

Westone's an old name, I wonder if there's any connection to the company who was making guitars 30 years ago or whether it's just a phantom brand now?

It's a pretty generic range, Westones were usually pretty original (even the 'recent' cutlasses etc from a decade or so ago).

Whatever, looks decent (ash body, through body, wilkinsons...) but if you've actually played one you're probably in a better position than any of us to rate it. :)

Just FYI, if you fancy a Hendrix style, aggressive rock Strat for a ridiculously low price, check out this one :

A friend bought it, completely pro instrument, trem rivals that of my PRS and the dummy coil / RW/RP combi gives you noiseless operation in all positions but 3, only logical if you consider how it's done technically.

Great playability, auhentic Hendrix / SRV tone

Now if they made a non-relic version with a more mellow, Knopfler-style tone but with the dummy coil I'd order one ASAP.

Over 'vintage v6 series'... Maybe you can build up your Hendrix Strat out of this ;)

As I'll age, I'm going to build up my guitar collection from trusty copies of the big guitar types. I won't f@cking spend thousands for the 'perfect' tone. That quest remains for those who play like Hendrix or Page.

Now I'm looking for something to accompany my Evl Z4: Something with standard tuning, twangy country tone, and a bigger neck. The total opposite of my lil'Cort. So far I've found that the Tele type guitars match these criteria, so I'm looking for cheap but decent guitars of this kind. They also look 'sexy'. The Westone I've tried, and also the Vintage Icon Tele looks promising.
The Wilkinson pickups are pretty good sounding for me, and I don't plan to get better ones.
So after I've got my Tele, a Strat will follow, I think that'll be also a Vintage or a Westone. After that, a soapbar SG, and so on... Till I get knocked up of old age and my grandkids will inherit my music stuff. :D

Cheers!

Thanks, hadn't seen these !
Unfortunately the wood is different ...
Guess I'll better buy that trem and put it on an existing Strat, complete with locking tuners and a set of noiseless PUs.

Re Tele, if budget allows check out the Fender Deluxe Nashville Telecaster (Mexican made), a truly great sounding, well made Telecaster that just screams for a PU upgrade.

Mine is the "power" version with integrated active Fishman piezo system which is very handy onstage, otherwise you won't need it.
PUs have been changed to Vintage Noiseless and the switching modified using a Megaswitch to give me B+N in the middle position, hey, it's a Tele !

(identical model, not mine)

Highly recommended, and though it's a bit more expensive it might actually save you from needing an extra Strat.

Re: Vintage, ebay seller toms19 often has Vintage guitars up for auction (eg. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VINTAGE-V52-ICON- ... 6802698092)

A couple of relic strats went for daft money recently (half retail).

usual disclaimer, nuthin' to do with me, never actually bought from him... :)

edit: actually, looking at the photos on his auction reminded me why i don't like relic'ed guitars, who'd want a bridge like that?! Or those frets... :-o :)
