Yep, that's about the measure of it ;)

brilliant!

Seriously, ocm, just move on. There's nothing for you here.

so, a pretty bloody reasonable approach, then. there should be more of it.

At the same time I still don't like your attitude towards the ones who didn't thank you .You know that secretly waiting for a reward of any kind while pretending to do something for free is not right. When you said first volume is free that means you don't expect even to be thanked.
Are you serious about this ,is it so much for some guys to say thank you ? there prefere to post useless posts about worthless stuff instead of writing a couple of letters "thank you" is it that much,no its not.I understand that not everyone have a mood to say thanks but anyway jumping like that is not needed ,theres too much unaprecciation when it comes to free stuff, but you wont get it until you do something yourself for free.

Thank you Hakey for the bank (I am not all that good with synths but looking forward to trying it out nevertheless) and have not used Synth1 before so tis an excuse to pop another synth into the synth shy VST folder :D

A Korg K-Series K49 controller i have now as i was using the computer keyboard in live for 'playing' synths and samplers  and a friend gifted it to me for a couple of unused stomp pedals and it makes an giagantic difference!

Peace out and all the best

:) yay!!! whatever that list does, put me on it! is it a kind of blacklist for the people you don't invite to your birthday at your place with a nice pool in the back and lots of cake your mum did?

i didn't intend to make you feel bad!
My whole intention is to make you aware of your own way of treating people, which is not a bad one. Lotta people in the world today live like that...
What i dont like and what i never would dare, is to start such a pseudo-authorical thing like you did and start to give something only to people that thanked you. :) i'm just reminded about when i was in school and some kids just "liked" you if you appeared nice to them and went up their ass ...
I'd just never would dare to treat people like that. If i decide I give something away which I do alot (not really software) then i would never judge somebodys "kindness" if they are worth to receive what i did.

how do you judge if somebody saying "thank you" really means it?

Thats the whole point.

I dont want you to do it like i would, i just wanna discuss it :)

But still:
Thanks for Vol 1 even if i didn't hear them yet just cause i rarely use synths at all but downloaded it to try them out sometime...

Thank you for reading! I mean it!

You're very welcome Nekro. :)

As I didn't read this thread before, I'm not sure I would have say thank you (even if I say thank you very often, even when I'm not interested.
So now, I think I have to thank you for the first bank, not for the second one of course, and thank you for turning this thread in a debate about politeness. Very instructive.
You can't always get what you waaaant...

Dunno but I feel this requested thank you thing is a bit awkward somehow. I think I would have better understood if you'd have rewarded those who initially expressed a real heartfelt gratitude by giving them a second bank and left it there.

Anyone can now say thank you while thinking f**k off to get the second bank. :hihi:

Just my 2c and thank you anyway.

Some people here seems to think Hakey owes them something, well he doesn't :uhuhuh:

He made his first bank available for everyone to download and now he has simply put a (very friendly and simple) requirement to getting bank 2. There's nothing strange, unfair, not logical or whatever about that.

I didn't say thanks for the first bank, I commented on it and on certain sounds that are in it (although a positive comment). This is what Hakey, and every other sound-designer that releases stuff for free, likes to hear; a little feedback that makes it worthwhile to do some more, like releasing a SECOND bank of free sounds :D

I'm going to release some free sounds myself soon (for Logana) and I surely hope to get some feedback, if even people telling me that the sounds are not that good (tbh I don't think they are all that good ;)), and I'm pretty sure if you listen through Hakey's bank 1 and tell him that you DON'T like certain sounds, he will still give you the download for the second bank :hihi:

I wonder what the original creator of this synth would think of all this fuss. Dude made a fantastic synth and gave it away for free. Never asked for thanks, and I'm sure never expected any. Another dude makes a couple of banks and proceeds to dispense lessons in etiquette. I think I prefer the first dude's approach.

Ciao!

Thanks Crimson! :)

The more that people try to second guess my intent, or try to tell me how I ought to give away my own creative work, the less I am inclined to give anything away in the future.

So this is the last I shall say on the matter:

1. My intent re the distribution of Vol 2 was to reward viruosity. In this case 'virtuosity' was simply the practice of common courtesy - saying thanks. Whether such thanks is sincerely offered is a side issue (and in this instance, for me to judge), but I am satisfied that by merely saying thank you a person fulfils the most basic obligation of common courtesy.

2. For (I think) the third time, they are my patches; I'll give them to whoever I choose, in whatever manner I choose.

And that really is it.

Wow I just stumbled into this thread thinking mr. wobble was a play on the dubsteb bass and I'm quite suprised!!! Much better!!!

Great stuff Hakey!! Your presets are what got me into the synth1!!

Thanks again!!

I would really like to use the presets in volume 1 and 2 .right now because the author showed this inner self to us I have a bad feeling about using vol1 because they are now spiritually poisoned even though they sound good

Ah yes, I see your point.

The most obvious parallel would, of course, be with Richard Wagner's anti-Semitism and the way in which that has come to taint his work for future generations: for some just listening to Wagner amounts to tacit supporting for his lamentable views.

And I can quite see how anyone enjoying these patchbanks might feel a similar sense of complicity in the actions of the author, which have included: giving a load of patches away for free, attempts to reward virtuosity and encourage common courtesy, being a little bit rude to a couple of people in this thread, and... that's about it.

It really is a most intractable moral dilemma, isn't it?
