They had an RG 1560 prestige at a local shop and it was "eh". I like what I've got more BUT then again the one I'm looking at ordering isn't really the same. It's really hard to tell and if I was convinced that the 1420 is as "eh" as the 1560, I'd save a grand

That warmoth link was fun, a body similar to the tele in question was ~$215, though postage to the UK would be a kicker.
I have a pretty lofi attitude to guitars (too much sonic youth...

My 72 tele custom (black with neck) started out innocent enough when I bought a duncan 1/4 pound in 82, by 85Ian B wrote:In as much as after the *butchering* it'd be impossible to sell on?GaryG wrote:..........I think I'm more liable to do what Nekro says and butcher a low price model, make it totally mine.
Contour sanded in the back
Kahler tremolo (had to rout the body)
I moved the volume control up next to the strings like a strat (more body hacking required)
had a duncan invader in the bridge and a dimarzio in the neck (I cut a brass tele bridge to fit the humbucker)
at one point had one of those baby big mouth fuzz boxes built into it (later had a switch type pre-amp)
had schaller machine heads
then it got stolen...now just imagine the value if I had of kept it stock, as it were I'm surprised the thief didn't bring it back
it also came stock with the worst idea Fender ever had...the three bolt neck

As much as I like teles, my next guitar sure as hell wouldn't be one of these monstrosities, at any price never mind the £3.5k GBP price tag

Speaking of "relic'ing"......GC had a JS1000 that was f**ked UP! I mean, this was not being sold as a used instrument, it had STAB wounds literally! Missing a knob, missing the toggle, and dented and scratched like you wouldn't believe, and they wanted a grand for it??GaryG wrote:Oh yes.

Anyways, needless to say, I certainly wasn't interested

*If* I was looking for another guitar, either of these sites would tempt me
http://www.callistocaster.moonfruit.com/# (unbelievable, but seemingly genuinely low prices)
(I might have mentioned this place before) http://www.diyguitarshop.co.uk/
