How long do the batteries last on it? How many are req'd?

One usually but you can up it to two for 18v (they last along time actually aslong as you do not leave a jack plugged into the guitar as that switches them on and off - same as say a boss/digitech...etc battery powered stompbox)

my batteries last well over a year and I'm lazy bastard so I never unplug my guitar. The thing is with active electronics vs pedals is that active electronics do not require the constant high power supply pedals need. Before I got wise and bought power supplies I use to give my used 9 volt batteries to my father when I was done with them because they still had plenty of life (he used them in radios and the like). With pedals once the battery starts to fade it becomes painfully obvious in your tone, but with active electronics this is not the case so even a battery with 50% of it's power left still doesn't sound like someone threw a wet blanket over your speakers

edit: the above does not mean pedals are high power devices, just that 9 volts at their peak work best with them. BTW, many people agree with me on this...Duracells hold their peak power longer, Enegizers taper is more constant but in cases where peak performance isn't an issue they last longer overall...at least that has been my experience.

There's this dead Cedar tree in the woods near my house... that I've been contemplating cutting it down for the last 5 years or so, taking it to the saw mill and having it cut. Glueing a nice few pieces of the best grain together and making myself a Cedar telecaster. Would be a nice guitar, an interesting story and well a fun adventure. The only caveat to this is the tree is sort of an interesting sculpture in the forest currently... which I hate to mess with? What do you think...

My camera is being lame again so I'll just have to show you the standard web pic.

It covered the bases of what I was looking for (zero point, prestige/j craft, attractive, binding on the neck and most important plays great) and it was 50% off. So it wasn't any more than the other one I was thinking about and has better pups and a much better trem

It really has a wonderful touch to it. So I'm officially broke but I was able to get what I've been looking for for the last couple of months.

PS: That is not a stripe on the body, it's full black

Honestly I'm not sure cedar is the best choice for an electric, some scoustics use it for solid tops and it sounds nice and looks great. Cedar is not a hard wood (heh heh he said "hard wood") and really not much different than making a guitar out of pine

I would be kind of chary of using cedar but then that is just me. It is a soft wood that might require a fair amount of time drying--depending where you are.

Apparently someone used Peruvian cedar to make one--
