Metal guitar patterns

I don't play guitars, nor do I know exactly how metal guitar tracks are played. The sound I'm going for in my tracks is sort of like metal + electronica, and since I don't play guitar, I bought a metal sample library for Kontakt.

It seems like a combo of chords and drone notes in between the chords? I can't understand if those drone notes are single-note strums, or more muted versions of the same chord.

And here's me quickly playing that in Kontakt, using Shreddage Rhythm Guitar library. The "smaller" sound, I guess you could call it, is me hitting the same key, but at a different velocity, which I guess plays a more muted version.
