...who had a Number One in both the UK and US in the same year? Or have I misread this..?
They all did except this one, so I have to correct myself:

Number 1 in UK and number 6 in US.
Hmmm...Abba's Waterloo gets somewhere close...are you sure you didn't mishear the lyrics? :?
Yes I did...

Let's say we all know the last one is Waterloo and guess the rest.

 That's a couple of hours of my life I want back...I even went to the trouble of checking out the lyrics of 'Kung-Fu Fighting' to see if it had some hidden political depths. Needless to say, it didn't.

The rest are:

The Animals - House of the Rising Sun
Sonny & Cher - I Got You Babe
The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
Harry Nilsson - Without You

Yeah, sorry about that - I listened to them to get the lyrics when I probably should have gone to a lyric site...

All correct though.

Michael, Brian, Farrokh, Harry and Anna Mae all share a certain thing. What is it? And who are they?

They changed their names? I think I know who Farrokh and Anna Mae are, and I can think of a Harry.

Post

No. Two of them still have the same name. And two of the other ones are dead.

One of them died the same year that Elvis did. Another one was born in Belgium; he's still alive.

One of them's been knighted.

(That's it for now.)

Is it awards? Haven't got all of them yet, but noticed on thing the ones I have so far have in common.

Post

No it's not awards. They've all done something with someone else, the someone else being the same person in all cases.

To summarise:

Michael, Brian, Farrokh, Harry and Anna Mae

Two of the above use their real names, the others have 'stage' names.
Two of the above are dead; one of these died in 1977.
One of the above who isn't dead was born in Belgium.
One of the above is a knight.

And a couple of extra clues:

One of them performed on (arguably) one of the world's best-selling singles of all time.

One of them has a surname that, with a letter added, is the name of another band, who took their name from a fictional milk drink.

Or has that just confused things further? :hihi:

All worked with David Bowie?

Michael - Mick Jagger
Brian - Brian Eno
Farrokh - Freddie Mercury
Harry - Bing Crosby
Anna Mae - Tina Turner

Actually I don't know if he worked with Tina Turner, but the others I know.

So close...four out of five...and a slightly more specific reason.

Well the only one that came to mind dying the same year as Elvis was Bing Crosby, and as far as I know he only performed with him doing a cover. Can't imagine I've got the last 3 wrong, but I could be wrong about the first two. I'm guessing it's the born in Belgium thing that I've got wrong.

Post

Ah, I'll give it to you, because it wasn't one of my best questions!

The missing one was Brian Molko of Placebo (born in Belgium, has a surname that's nearly Moloko).

They've all duetted with David Bowie:

Dancing In The Streets (Mick Jagger)
20th Century Boy and Without You I'm Nothing (Brian Molko & Placebo)
Under Pressure (Freddie Mercury & Queen)
Little Drummer Boy (Bing Crosby)
Tonight (Tina Turner)
