I promise to buy Valhalla Shimmer... I tried to get Aether to sound like it yesterday, and while I got quite close at times, I never did nail it 100%. Damn it to hell!

Nope, a real gear, they call it iLok, and it's a PITA to install.

Pro:
I want a new toy (one that does something useful is a plus)
I like the idea of it living up to the hype
In my head, I picture everything I do sounding 134% better

Con:
Christmas is coming up and I have kids who want new toys
It's probably over hyped
In my head, I picture being able to get the same sound out of something I already have

Would it help if I said that I don't really like vintage warmer, no really, it's just not my cup of tea.

i did the same experiments with EOS and a pitch shifter and although close, I ended up buying Valhalla Shimmer

given a recent spate of all sorts of bills, expected and unexpected, I tend to keep a modest <$50 package in the back of my mind to have as a celebratory goal, once all those other larger sums are paid off
