sure, i'll add an option for scale input via a specific midi channel. don't be sad, everything is designed to be controllable by midi or host automation.maki wrote:What about Force-to-Key that works by playing actual keys on a physical keyboard, like on all those chord recognition keyboards from the last 30 years. All that "mouse DJ performance" makes me very, very sad, especially knowing that we live in 2010.

versions past 20090910 dont seem to work in v-machine. loops dont show up and dont play. not sure why.
itd be kind of nice to have that as a seperate plugin for v-machine users who really need it, like me.
right now they both have the same id so v-machine replaces old with new, itd be nice to have both seperately so i could more easily test without losing my drum machine abilities when it replaces my working version.

well, i tried it in VFX... don't know how close that is to the real v-machine though. interestingly i couldn't get the old version to work at all, but the new one actually does.
one observation i have is that VFX sends weird time info, so midiLooper will only work in "Sample" sync mode. i worked on it a little so it will follow the tempo smoothly in that mode...
otherwise, the new version (just uploaded, same link) seems to be working normally in VFX, so if it is doing something else in v-machine, i will need more information.

i was just testing it myself again and also got it to play, both in the vfx app and on the v-machine itself.
thats so weird that the older one didnt work there, it always did and does here.
anyways the thing is on the older version it was dead easy to change loop, in the upper right of the vfx app you get a simulation of the v-machine display and buttons. on the older midiloops you can use that to scroll thru the loops as they play by selecting the loop:patch parameter and scrolling the presets beneath it.
in the new i can get one playing but cant figure out how to switch cleanly to another one, im not sure if it can be done as easily. itd be cool if it could.i only need one loop at a time.
as far as getting the older one to work there i can't think of any advice because if you got the new one working you must have the midi routing setup correctly in the channel.
sometimes i had to set end point to -8 to get it to run but that was with badly formatted mid files i was dropping in it i thought. all that stuff has since gone away as i got better at getting loops into the right format.
and often i have to transform to ch.10 since im doin drum machine stuff.
unrelated, sometimes things will work in vfx that just plain wont on the v-machine itself, but thats not the case here i dont think, especially not backwards.
im to the point where i think midilooper should be included with v-machine. i spent like 3 weeks trying out drum machine plugins, got close with tatapoum. cubix and broomstick bass work but thats not really what im thinkin of.
using midiloops with their included sampletank se got me there quite nicely.
and i gotta say it yet even again that of the plugins ive tried on v-machine midiloops stands out like it was actually written for v-machine ease of use.
huge applause, man!

well, i did design it originally with no GUI... that probably helps the usability on the v-machine.
the reason you can switch between playing loops easily on the old version is that it can only play one loop at a time, but it should be easy enough for me to add a "single loop" mode on the new version that works the same way. the old version has some pretty serious bugs, so i would like the new one to be able to replace it completely.
ok... last version for now
http://thepiz.org/pizmidi/midiLooperMulti.zip
this has an option to play only the active slot, which is supposed to make it work the old way. this affects clicking the buttons, changing VST programs, and midi program change. to make it simpler there's also a "Master Play" parameter which is always linked to the active slot, like how the big play button on the GUI works.

wow, just wow!!!
very nice work, works nicely on v-machine indeed.
tempo adjust is smooth now.
thanks thanks thanks, im doin a donation tonight before i forget again, was gonna do it when you first posted that...
small request, now that the velocity scale adjust parameters are dedicated to slots and not automatically to the playing pattern maybe there could be a global velocity adjust added?
i had it assigned to one knob before on the old version and it was cool and easy to adjust dynamics as the patterns played.
thanks tons again and again!

good to hear that it's working well on the v-machine! yes, i think i'll have to add "master" controls for velocity as well as some of the other parameters.

i think theres nothing more i can think of!
i was reminded i should probably wait and purchase the final because then i can get a tax deduction with the recipt and all.
so count on me for a sale right away.

actually today i added time signatures for the piano roll. but yes, it already supported them for recording in 1-bar increments.

Thanks sink!
I'm proud to be a part of KVR history.
New version today:

Changes:
- Annoying "DEMO VERSION" text (no other demo limitations)
- Can change output channel while playing (no stuck notes)
- Optionally set scale based on an incoming MIDI channel (if "Use MIDI Input" is checked, per-slot)
- Master Velocity (applies to all slots after per-slot setting)
- Master Transpose (applies to all slots after per-slot octave, semitones, and force to scale)
- Time signature support for piano roll and import/export of MIDI files
- Triplet and dotted note grid for piano roll
- Piano roll zoom in/out
- Lasso selection for piano roll
- Various minor bug fixes
- Changed name back to midiLooper
Not quite done yet, but getting there...
Have fun, and happy Halloween.
