Is there a way to adjust the volume of the releases?

Not in the front-end interface at least, though you can adjust the group volumes (for ALL release samples) or individual sample volumes. Maybe that would be a nice improvement, though, having a release volume percentage in the "articulation" section?

In some high gain amp sim presets, the release seems to be louder than the sustain!

This is the kind of thing I want to have as simple and noticable control of for a vi as possible. I am not into going into the Kontakt interface and squinting at eg., groups settings, at all. I'm into getting music done and am swamped with ideas. There are people I guess who enjoy tweaking the Kontakt, but I will avoid it at all costs.

Yup, release sample volume has been added to the front panel--per layer, so you have control over the volume separately depending on the articulation, for example.
