thank you :) i'm sure the potential for better patches exists.

as you use this, please mention to me any features you like about it, eg. i've wondered if a 2nd tracking resonant bandpass would be worthwhile, or more get in the way/be overcomplicated. i oc find these things servicable and hope that one day a larger % of composers will as well.

My own guote from t'other thread;
A guitar synth that can be played easily and create sounds like every guitar sound I have ever heard and in seconds switch from acoustic to electric and still sound great etc.
OK Pling doesn't meet that wish and I'm just not knowledgeable in the field to enter into a dialogue about "2nd tracking resonant bandpass would be worthwhile, or more get in the way/be overcomplicated".

I'd love to say it's a pile of shit, just to get the ball rolling, but it isn't and well........

I'm sure you had in mind that a lot of people will just punt an amp onto it so why not have give it some more oomph in that department ?

Anyway..good luck with it.

I played w/it today, seems that non-oversampled is very high pitched intensity, while on is duller and more cpu, that seems sort of reversed.

The guitars sound real crisp, I can't think of another plug with that intensity. I like the 1st compile's bass sounds better, they had that weird delay ringing sound, less realistic.

the zip file has been updated to include a manual which may be of some assistance :)

the .dll now includes four patches by taotekid which can be heard in this mp3:

this model was good enough for korg and yamaha, so i'd hope that contemporary vst users are able to extricate a palette of timbres from it. again, i'm certain that better presets can be made with this instrument. i can only listen on headphones. i cannot relate to what this instrument sounds like with larger speakers. that's what i have to deal with. to my ears on headphones, it seems to have sufficient harmonic content and variation to work in a great number of applications. i've used it's predecessors in at least a hundred recordings.

anyway - a few more days and i'll set it and forget it :) as i said in the thread preempting this release, it's like pulling teeth trying to get people on this forum interested in a waveguide plucked string. that thread probably had more responses than either this or the thread for pling3.

ftr rbr, the difference between the timbre of the two sampling modes is explained on the first page, 10th post.

the "weird delay ringing sound" was probably due to the sustain of the noise or bandpass resonance on those initial patches :)

sweet ! :D

I'm glad that you liked the patches enough to include them :)
it's actually pretty cool to access them so easily & it's the first time that some of the very few patches I made ended up in a plug-in,
& it's quite gratifying that these did in one of your plugins 8)

I noticed that the oversample is not included in the preset saving process,
I found it easier to control the brightness of my guitar patch with the oversampling, using the velocity to reach brighter tones,
also I had set the poly to legato in my little demo track,
& I think that the 'bell string' patch sounds fuller & richer with the oversampling,
but the 'woodenspiel' & the 'velocidrums' do sound better without it :)

thanks for everything Rurik :D

i think you're right.. i've been itching to try doing things differently because i so often eg. address velocity with the same technique.. so a few recent plugins have experimented with params that "ignore program change," but since the oversampling does affect the timbre so much it makes sense to make it patch dependent.

i also tried some efects with a dry/combined amp section instead of dry/wet.. that didn't last long.. :scared:

here's another little demo of the guitar patch,
it's polyphonic this time, & it goes through 2 different amp sims/effects chains :

http://www.box.net/shared/szf472v8oy

I hope that you'll like it !

I've cut the highs quite a bit before pluging the guitar to the amps
& I thought that maybe a low-pass filter before the output would be handy to design the sounds,
it could be useful to make rounder, softer basses out of the box too :)

this is *really* nice!(may have been the first version?2nd dl now..)
really crisp sound.
(could suggest the GUI is a bit *bright*, could do with more contrast. maybe
have stepped response on some buttons with fewer options)
tried to turn it inside out as much as poss, but didn't save anything.
interesting bass stuff. think if you get to 'stage1' with this model, a separate
plugin taking it into different realms could be cool.(eg: velocity/zone layering
madness...and string 'windings', haha). playability is the most important here: +/- centred controls on scaling.(if not there already?can't remember)

have you tried anything with strongly-resonating chorus/delay? to make bowed
instrument sounds?(er,yeah:karplus-strong=filtered delay etc)

!!oh yeah: i remember: i wished the envelopes were grouped together ;)

(hey, wouldn't it be cool to be able to assign VST GUI functions to key commands?
for a change, like navigating/control with arrow keys, etc.(other topic))

THANKS taotekid for the second demo mp3 - there are some nice bits in there. i've only done rudimentary investigation into pickup emulation.. i'd hope there's a free plug out there, maybe not since acoustic guitars are kinda stuck with the body resonances.

mztk - always glad to hear 'really nice' :) it's been a LONG time since my bass playing days. i'd love to get mokafix to make a patch or two. i think my paucity of resource would strongly inhibit my ability to improve emulation more. i'm fairly sure my last bass guitar is stashed away in somewhere  hopefully it wasn't stolen but i doubt i'll ever be able to lay hands on it again. rondo fretless sx with customisation. loved it.

bowed strings - try boing2. really. NOONE ever uses that plugin. it can go places (probably more with hermite interpolation).

i don't follow several of your comments.. grouped envelopes.. eg. to make noise and picking impulse the same??

key commands.. what i loved about logic 4. i recently gave the vst sdk another shot, retired it. maybe one day i'll be rich and i can buy steinberg and make them explain how to use the bloody thing so i can write plugs with MY key commands, MY poly schema, et c.

Cool ! I'm happy that you like it :D
& you're welcome ! thank you !

there is this free pickup emulation plug :

I'll try it with Pling4 later on ...

yeah...no!...group EG's for quick access. geographically.
just remembered thinking gnah, where's the..just to make
control easier. access. maybe need to play with it more.
('user feedback')

bowed synth: i heard a resonance+chorus patch on something
that sounded like a saranghi(indian bowed strings, will check
boing).
think it's the same principle as pluck/karplus-strong.
keycommand talk=just wishful thinking.
if you want a nice accoustic bass, knacker a cheap accoustic
with some proper heavy bass strings. works. kills the guitar, tho.

Post

thanks for the link tao. haven't tried it myself yet and not sure if there's a setting suitable for 'bare string' :)

mztk - the two methods of bowing i've used either use a karplus-strong with noise (there's a few free vsts like this) or a periodic body impulse (check julius smiths 'commuted bowed string synthesis' mp3s.. fun stuff!). boing2 uses a 'bowing friction juncture' on the string which is more complex to configure and perform with but imo is much better than noise injected into a k-s.. tho the 'body impulse' technique is quite good, pending you can suitably prepare impulses.

you're welcome Rurik :)
it actually produces rather interesting results,
& your acoustic plug does too :D
