The first time I heard this track, I put on the headphones, then got distracted with something else that totally cleared my mental cache. After a minute, I thought to myself, "Hey, these are some cool sounds on this track. I wonder how they are making them?" Then I remembered...

Seriously, this sounds much different from my own usage of Shimmer. I really like this. How are you getting the general graininess of the sounds? It sounds like some sort of scratchy FM/AM. Is that using Shimmer at all? I'd love to take credit for that sound :D, but am just interested in the sound in general.

Hey, thanks for the kind words. At first I fell in love with the idea of this plugin, and really liked the soundexamples posted here, but after downloading the demo I got a bit hesitant about buying it, cause I couldn't find a real use for it in a mix. It was to characteristic, and felt like everything I put through it ended up sounding pretty much the same, - although great. But then I started to play with it.

The track started out with six minute impro done with a granular patch in Max. Two samples, a dulcitone and a short string sample, and some trainet synthesis (in short: sinuses;) Sometimes the grains get FM-modulated, as you correctly observed. Everything then went through a pretty wet Shimmer, I think dual reversed, one octave above. This was actually with the demo, so every 45 seconds or so the reverb faded out. Then the 6 minutes result was timestretched to half its length. By this time I had som much fun, and couldn't Iive with the dropouts, so I bought it. The 3 minutes piece then got reversed, and this version was treated with some shimmer, and layered upon the originalt with a little bit of offset, one in each channel to create some stereo effects. The result got processed through another Shimmer. In the end I layered the drumtrack a friend of me sent me for some totally different reason. I thought it contributed, and left it in there, with some more shimmer on the sends, and some Shimmer for just the drums, a short reversed one. That one got a bit metallic, and is heard in the last part only, along with some FreqEcho. The endresult is a bit strange maybe, more like a sketch, but great fun to make!

Sorry for the long explanation, but I think you're entitled to know since I posted this here, just saying "Shimmmer!", and not explaining. The somewhat detailed explanation Is because I had to recreate this a couple of times, cause Wave Editor kept crashing, and each time I forgot to save or bounce. A lot of Shimmers, but maybe not so obvious.

But you'll only need about 5sec to hear how great it is.. :)
unless, like me, you are interested in buying it for what happens PAST 45 seconds; to note the cumulative effect

i agree that, in a plug of this sort, maybe another limitation would work out better...i like the ohm guys...you have a certain amount of hours, you can use it for, that isn't date limited...if you set this at 2hours use, it would work out ok (imo)

anyways, i had to take the risk...i bought it, earlier today..will put it through its paces, over the coming weeks..also bought the stand-alone 'ambient'.....too much fun :D

Jumped on the Shimmer train last night, here is a short track with a solo Euphonium, automating the sends to 5 differently tuned instances of shimmer - so composing with harmonic spaces so to speak:
Dark Interlude

Remixed an old electronic track my friend composed on an old Sound Blaster 16 card with a very old version of Cakewalk, now modernized with Sonar instruments, that really could have benefited from the right kind of haunting ambience.

To quote Arnold: "Get to da chopper!" -(Predator)

I am amazed by how 3D the sound gets and stays when using multiple instances being triggered together by different sources and it does not get muddy.

Well, that put an end to a cycle of head reverbs -- yes, no, maybe, yes, no...

Stuck on YES now. All the other demos were persuasive, this one is conclusive. A reverb that's a compositional tool: you gotta love it.

And I simply bought it for that 1 reason...

Well, finally got it! Thanks for sending me the keyfile on a Sunday, Sean, and thanks for this awesome piece of virtual kit!

Just fooling around for half an hour: AD's Axon programmed in F-Major, Rob Papen Delay on every second track, and Valhalla Shimmer everywhere -

Nothing for posterity, but a lot of fun. :)

Shimmer sounds very 1994 IDM on the drums! The algorithms don't have very much in common with the Quadraverb reverb algorithms (the reverb used by Aphex Twin and Autechre around 1994), but there are some definite similarities in the sound, especially on the high hat sounds.

Axon is really cool. I have to sit down one day and learn how to actually make it work. I've played around with the presets running through Shimmer, but setting up my own patterns would be good.

The beginning of the track has a sound I am presuming is Shimmer with a fairly small size setting, pitch set to single (+12 semitones), and a fair amount of feedback. With smaller size settings, the octaves feed back faster, and can get kinda aggressive.
