Been toying with it many times but still haven't gotten around to buy it. What are you people using it for?

Wasting time mainly.

Making FSU effects like a spectral reverb that can be pitchshifted, vocoded and whatnot.

More conventional fx, like a hum / noise reduction plugin for guitar, waveshaping etc.

I use it as a host for more freeform stuff too.

It's also great for MIDI creation / manipulation, like transforming events to CC's and whatnot.

i have mainly been using it for sound creation.

but with the scripting in renoise 2.6 i want to look into if i could use if for something more

would be cool if i could control 2 or more instances of renoise for live stuff

I use Plogue for live use, although I tend to be moving increasingly more to Usine at the moment. Plogue is still awesome though :)

I used it to host VSTs and then create midi on the fly using the ruby programming language which I route into Plogue through midiyoke. I wrote a more detailed description of my Plogue live setup here if you want some more info :)

- making my own plugins (mostly delay/filter-based but spectral stuff too)
- performing in the 'noise' scene with my wiimote and homemade 'nasty-noisers'
- making all kinds of sequencers for the various midi controllers lying around

I've considered moving to Max/MSP recently as I'd like to control lights as well, but I discovered midi-controllable lights so no need!

I'm also one of those guys whos has been thinking about using Plogue, in my case as a rewire host for Reason. Curious to hear more about this type of use :)

Umm... It's called Bidule! Plogue is the name of the company! :)
I use it for making machines that generate evolving textures and sequences,
as well as setups for live use where what one person is capable of doing changes as a result of what someone else is doing.
It also works really well for making synths and effects (that wouldn't otherwise) behave well with the AudioMulch Metasurface.

I've used it to build a patch that turns any microphone plugged into a sound card into a midi breath controller.

My latest one is a waves vocal rider type plugin; works better than the waves one for me.

Basically, I replaced the Receptor OS with a combination of Bidule, a real OS (Windows or Linux), Reaper 'ReaMote', TightVNC, and my software that interprets the communications from the Receptor front panel into OSC commands.

Bidule is great for creating random patches for vstis. You can define what parameters are being randomized or not, and between what values.

Also, i use it between my midi controllers and my host to create custom, ergonomic midi mappings. Things like define latch/unlatch, range of the CC, convert notes to CC or CC to notes, double the number of controls available (one switch to enable/disable a CC# transposer), etc...
And Bidule recognizes joysticks !

For those two uses Bidule is cpu light and unobstrusive.

For the rest, it can do great things but the impossibility of customizing the gui, like the size of buttons and sliders, their layout, and the preset management system make it unattractive and cumbersome.
Too bad, as the learning curve is not so hard and there's a lot of help on the Plogue forum.

I bought a license for Bidule, and have it installed as 64-bit app, but don't ask me what I'm using it for. I guess it's for the right to use it as VST plug-in.
