goldenanalog wrote:1.) Audio demos, audio demos, audio demos. What sounds can you produce with this synth that will separate it from the crowd (the 1000's of other vsti's)?
I wish I could show you, but I'm not allowed to yet. I will say that I really liked the sounds I made with it and programming is really nice.
goldenanalog wrote:2.) Will ExtraX be like Gladiator 2, where features in Gladiator 2 are 'unlocked' when you buy additional sound sets?
I don't see an expansion button on it, so I can't really say. I theorize (with no support from Tone2) that they probably will not take that route. But thats just my opinion.
goldenanalog wrote:3.) I don't see HCM on the list of synthesis techniques for ExtraX. Does HCM's absence mean anything; i.e., is ExtraX *not* an update to Gladiator 2 (different featureset)?
ElektraX is very different from Gladiator.

Again I'm not the authority, but I think Gladiator will probably see a couple more releases. Keep in mind what I think is based on heresay, and plans change.
goldenanalog wrote:4.) CPU load? I use a Q6600 for audio; will I need a faster computer to run ExtraX?
I didn't notice any performance hit on my main audio laptop, but it has a 3.02Ghz proc in it, which takes a few ACEs to even notice.
goldenanalog wrote:5.) W/no AD's available for the masses, perhaps 12/10 for release is a little too optimistic?
Seemed pretty stable to me, and Tone2 is very secretive about their products. :)
Thanks for responding to all of my posted questions; xybre! Appreciated!

Any idea of price yet??

Hello,

At first we wanted to say a big thanks for the HUGE interest in ElectraX!
Thank you for the very positive feedback and the big enthusiasm from our sound designers.

-----------------------
Q: When will it be available?

A: We plan to release it at the beginning of December.
-----------------------
Q: Will there be demosongs?

A: We are currently working on this. We expect that it will be finished at the end of November.
-----------------------
Q: Will there be a demo version?

A: Yes. We plan to release it at the beginning of December.
-----------------------
Q: How can ElectraX be compared with Gladiator?

A: Both products are virtual synthesizers from Tone2. However they are very different products and sound very different. We have taken big care that the feature-sets and concepts of both products do not overlap.
-----------------------
Q: How much will ElectraX cost?

A: We still did not decide about this. We will annouce the price as soon as the product is completely finished.
-----------------------
Q: Could you please explain the 'Quick Import Vocoder' function in the file menu?

A: Vocoders are quite difficult to setup. That's why i created this function. It automatially creates a vocoder patch with custom sound. All you have to do is click on the button and select a wav file with speech or a drumline.
-----------------------
Q: What is ultrasaw?

A: Ultrasaw mode uses multiple stacked oscillators, the PW knob determines the amount of detuning between these oscillators. The different selections in this mode are based on the amount and shape of these oscillators.
-----------------------
Q: What is fractal synthesis?

A: The unique fratcal oscillators are a new type of synthesis which is not available in any other synthesizer.
Chaos theory is a field of study in mathematics, physics, economics and philosophy studying the behavior of dynamical systems that are highly sensitive to initial conditions. This sensitivity is popularly referred to as the butterfly effect. Small differences in initial conditions yield widely diverging outcomes for chaotic systems, rendering long-term prediction impossible in general. This behavior is known as chaos. Chaotic behavior can be observed in many natural systems, such as the weather, plants, lightning or analogue circuits from synthesizers.

Thanks for this post :) Christmas is around the corner, especially if there will be an "intro" offer :D

I concur with Markus...ElektraX definitely is not "another Gladiator", but has a very different vibe to it and veers off in a different direction. For instance, it has REAL FM synthesis capabilities, and I _believe_ you can also use FM on samples (looks like it can do it, but I will have to confirm this later as I haven't tried it). There are some different modulation options not present in Gladiator. Also, as Markus points out, ElectraX also has fractal synthesis capabilities, which has its own vibe as well.

More good reasons to make this my first Tone2 synth. :D

Confirmed. FM on samples is possible. You can do for example scratch sounds with that or freaky vocal effects.

Here is an excerpt of the possible synthesis combinations. There is a lot more possible.

As FM source (modulator) you can use:

- Wavetable
- Fractal
- Virtual analog
- Sample
- Noise
- Ultrasaw
- Phase distortion

As FM destination you can use:

- Wavetable
- Virtual analog
- Sample
- Ultrasaw
- Phase distortion

-------

As Sync source you can use:

- Wavetable
- Fractal
- Virtual analog
- Sample
- Noise
- Ultrasaw
- Phase distortion

As Sync destination you can use:

- Wavetable
- Virtual analog
- Sample
- Ultrasaw
- Phase distortion

--------

It is also possible to use FM and Sync at the same time. Waveshaping can be applied on everything.

Best Regards,
Markus

Thanks for the further info... Sounds intriguing. Will there be any sound demos posted beforehand? Or only at release time?

They could also decide to let betatesters post audio at some point...

There were two things that got me into computers. Graphic waveform editing, which is obviously much easier than "scrubbing" tape, and to generate/make fractals.

From Windows 3.1.1 on, many of my software synths/sequencers were, and continue to be, algorithmic/generative. I'd be interested in making some presets for this if you aren't over-saturated already.

Uh, what do 3-band EQs usually do? :hihi:
Fyi, Gladiator also has a 3-band EQ.
Ha! I was wondering what the edit button above the eq does... (I know what the eq does :hihi: )

and thanks for the other answers...
Ohhhh lol, sorry. That just toggles the editor display (like Gladiator), so you can show just patch selector or the whole patch editing UI. :hihi:
noise and beats: Negutyv Xeiro do people actually click these?
gearlust: Roland JP-8000, too much/not enough eurorack

Looking forward to the audio demos, whoever does them :hihi:

The audio demos were done by the sound designers and some artists. I am currenlty arranging the material. I expect that it will be finished this week.
The sound demos will be available before the release.

A sound demo does *NOT* represent the quality of the product. It can only show a small part of the sounds, but not 'usability', 'performance', 'analog-feeling', 'workflow', 'stability', 'flexibility' or 'quality'.
We will provide a free demo version of the product at the beginning of December.

Markus Feil
