Windows 7, how's it doing for you?

Just wanted to start a poll to see how people are getting along with Windows 7. I'm interested in any problems with the OS itself primarily, not necessarily your DAW or plug-ins. I'm well aware some 32 bit plugs do not work with the Bit Bridges on 64 bit OS. If you've had OS troubles, list 'em here and your machine specs. For the most part the message I've been getting from most people is it 'just works'.

No issues even tho I have m-audio audiophile2496 and their drivers were from arse with XP. So, kinda relieved. Win7 32bit

I've been on Win 7 x64 since last Febuary. Absolutely no issues. I use a 32 bit host with both 32 bit plgins and some jbridged 64 bit plugins.

KEep the feedback rolling in folks. Very interested if anyone has had any real issues? Vista? I've heard of plenty. W7 seems to be doing well.

Amazingly, the EMU 1212 XP drivers installed ok, everything working well, before I found a Windows 7 beta on the EMU site. I have Pro version.
Has been all good.

Hello. I decided to buy Win7 home 64bit a couple months ago and did a dual-boot on my machine (both OS unaware of each other). While recently I was having some issues on XP, Win7 is running very good - Cubase 4 (obviously x86)is stable and had no problems with my (nearly 120) 32bit plugins.

EDIT: I had some DPC latency spikes, possibly due to my graphic card - but it happened on both 7 and XP

First OS for me that just works.

Had a little issue with an ATI 64bit display driver, got it sorted out by using a different one.
Win7 itself has been almost perfect, wich means doning its job and not getting in my way.

The one thing that gets on my nerves is that it seems a lot slower when moving or copying files.

Exactly, the first OS, which is really stable. I even had no problems with installing it on RAID...

Had no problem whatsoever for 8 months. Then about 2 weeks ago I turn on the PC one morning and it won't launch windows. Kept getting a message to "repair". Wouldn't work. Then I'd just get a black screen with the mouse cursor over it. Had to reinstall Windows 7 (64-bit). Now I have a disc image backup. Reinstalling and reauthorizing all my plugins was a pain. Aside from this one (rather major) incident, I am very happy with Windows 7. Fl Studio extended memory version works great. All plugins installed and work well (250+).

I'm running Vista 32-bit on my DAW and Windows 7 on my work machine and they both run absolutely fine. No complaints with Vista either.

Almost a year on 7x64, no real problem to report, just some small things.

like, networking XP machines and 7 has been unreliable for me(other Win7 machine network fine thought), global folder view option is gone, now it's all a case by case thing and it's annoying as all hell, there's no more "up" button in Explorer, the scrolling start menu annoys the hell out of me even after a year, sometime(often) Explorer will lock you out of moving or deleting folders because it falsely claim to be open in another program(I've since learned it has to do with the stupid thumbnail caching), removing sharing on folder leaves you with an unremovable "lock" on the folder icon... Like I said, mostly small annoyances.

On the plus side, it does perform extremely well for audio and video work.

As long as you're happy doing everything the way MS expects, i.e. lowest common denominator, everything works more or less.
Clever "features" like automatic download of updates without cancel button, making a reboot a half-hour affair, included.
Try to do something individual, even something as basic as integrating the PC into an existing non-7 network with fixed IPs and stuff and prepare for some thrilling adventures.
In a nutshell, easy for folks with little experience, convoluted and annoying for those expecting to configure stuff in a more pragmatic way.
Of course all that BS takes its toll regarding performance, not as bad as Vista was, but still no contest to XP. This might not matter to everybody, but the difference is there. Do the DAW Bench tests.
Why MS don't differentiate more between "easy" Home versions and performance- and configuration oriented Pro versions is beyond me, they are wasting a good chance here.

No, I don't work with 7 myself, still enjoying speed and stability of XP64.
But I did test the beta and have the dubious pleasure of being called whenever something's messed up on friends' systems.

My experience with 64-bit Win 7 has been very positive. Stuff runs quicker then used to on XP64Pro, same hardware. Of course, you need to tweak it and turn off various annoying things upon installation, but that's true of any edition of Windows. No real issues, though a couple of minor glitches, mostly with older 32-bit programs that I still happen to use: energyXT 1.41, M$ Office 2003 or Photoshop Elements 2. Glitches include isolated cases of file corruption on save (eXT, Excel; I learned to double-check if files are saved correctly) or UI misbehaviour (sliders in PSE). Otherwise, no serious problems, recommended.

Edit: One thing though that they deeply screwed in 7 are the games. Not only do you have to download them additionally by hand, but Solitare, Minesweeper, etc., they all suck. If you play them, prepare yourself for a disappointing and annoying experience

Personally, I haven't found a single one, and I use only 32-bit VST plugins (edit to clarify: under 64-bit Win 7).
