I just purchased a 1990's Gibson SG a week ago. I'm planning on getting an ESP EC-1000 Deluxe (81/85 pickup configuration) when I'm able to afford it.

Shameless, I know :hihi:
Tempting, i could use a a non-floyd or strat-type trem guitar and i do have one expensive one in mind (Vigier GV-Wood) but its hard to pass up that for the money (have tried a few SE models but not any of the singlecut models). What is the neck like? I like flat and shallow in depth 'shred' types with jumbo frets. That with my own choice of humbuckers i like the idea of. Wonder how much it would set me back to have it delivered/shipped from canada to england? Hmmm. If the neck is flat and thin then let me know man :)

Decisions, decisions!
:
Along with susiwong's points which are good ones :tu: here is my £0.02p on the three. If i had to pick out that three it would be the C-1 for sure, the volume and tone pot are not in the way like they are on the DK (unless you like using your pinky for volume swells for example) and the C-1 is also much more comfortably contoured than the SE and much more so than the DK's pretty much slab like body. I would find one without whacky OTT board inlays though personally. The pickups should be of decent quality under that chrome plating (either Duncan Designed or Duncans IRRC). That is just me/my thoughts on the three and i am sure each has its merits. Also i am a huge Jackson/Charvel fan but i got a Scheter not that long ago and i am very happy with it and it plays and sounds alot better than many guitars i have tried quite in-depth costing three times what i payed for it (£270) :) I think for VFM Schecter are very good at the moment.

Wow, thanks so much for the replies, susiwong and NEKRO.MACHINE! I was mainly looking for a Schecter C1 Classic before. Too bad they discontinued them last year! I'm quite easily discouraged from trying anything second-hand (apart from synths).

The Schecter would fit me perfectly, since it should come equipped with Duncan SH-4 and SH-2 Jazz, which is a VERY versatile pick-up configuration.

Give me a s/h guitar over a new one any day (provided I can check it out in person) - most wood- and finish issues show up during the first few years of a guitar's life, so actually a new one is more of a gamble.

And agreed to Dean's points too, though they might work equally well in reverse.
See what suits you, but keep these in mind by all means.

If you're in North America, hibidy's guitar looks like a very tempting offer, too - definitely in the same class and the price is right. :tu:

I'd really like to put my hands on a good Telecaster. What models should I consider for a reasonable price ?
There are so many Fender models that it's hard to understand the differences.
I've also seen the G&L Asat, they seem a good alternative. Any advices ?
You can't always get what you waaaant...

Teles, like Strats, are pretty much an open canvas these days - I've seen metal machines with locking trem and monster PUs in Tele shape ... :o
Maybe name one or two Tele players whose sound you like, and quote a ballpark for the price and we go from there ?

US G&L's are great guitars btw, but they have a much cheaper far east line, too - like Gibson/Epiphone, PRS/SE etc - check which one you're looking at.

you might see another sometime in the future, because of a flaw in the body of the guitar I was building from parts and the neck being a tele neck I am looking at warmoth tele bodies...it would have humbuckers, rear rout, original floyd rose (from the 80s). ;)

A friend of mine plays the exact same bass (in brown sunburst) - if you like the style and sound (I do) imho it doesn't get much better. :tu:
Sound opinion based on a MESA Venture combo and a Carvin solid state rig - a cross between Stingray and Fender, very different from your Rick.

Nothing wrong with that at all, it was just an example of what can qualify as a Tele nowadays.

I know and tbh the thought of doing a tele typical is tempting if it wasn't for my putting that locking nut on the tele neck. True it's a kahler and goes above the neck and who would notice 4 tiny holes? But in for a penny in for a pound and a maple neck with the whammy and hot elelctronics is more my style. (besides the pick-ups I'm likely to use are 4 conducter so I can split the coils if I want)

Oh maybe not then if its a Kahler and split-coil...but close and the body will be what is essentially the same, all FMIC approved/owned :D

if you recall I bought a kahler 'behind the nut' locking nut but was going to use a an gold original floyd rose. The pick-ups I have doing nothing are an old pair of duncan customs (one neck and one bridge). If I go without a finish and stain it myself I can get a maple tele body with both body contours like a strat, rout for the rose, two humbucker rout and rear rout electronic cavity for $255.00 usd. Give it a nice hand stained finish and wax the hell out it (no polyurethane) and it should look nice and be fairly maintenance free :tu:
