I miss the times where concerts were actually impressive in terms of setup...
...now it's just laptops and/or iPhones only.

my heartfelt advice is go see LadytronCompyfox wrote:I miss the times where concerts were actually impressive in terms of setup...

their setup, and more importantly, how they play all those wonderful old machines, will soothe the soul

hehehehe... that's an odd thing to say about this stuff.

yeah i'm not with brok on this one
what's the difference between a mobile device with musics apps on it than any other instrument? a synthesizer, a drum machine.. damn even an acoustic guitar. just because you can take it around with you and it's not a "pc" means you can't make music with it?
i agree with you if what you're trying to say is you can't make a full song with it... i have an iphone, and i've tried to make a decent full track. pretty damn impossible.
but as an instrument, it's pretty damn good. sometimes if i want to improvise a synth part i'll just load up bebot. or if i want to make some loops i'll load up dopplerpad. or if i want some drum machine sounds i can use bleepbox. you can mess around with it while you're on the pot and you can sample what you did onto your fancy computer later
but really i haven't found an iphone app that i've really connected with as much as the korg ds-10, that's why i won't get an ipad (pretty much a big ipod touch with a few extra apps). the thing i like about the ds-10 is the modulation (and the semi-crappy sound). it's capable of making some really crazy sounds.. and i haven't found anything quite like it for the iphone. i've only found really basic va synths and crazy granulators, i want something in between i guess
oh yeah, if you don't think you can make monkey using mobile devices, check out the new Xiu Xiu album, packed full of ds-10 sounds. Xiu Xiu makes money (not enough)

+1 ...and to be honest I think that we are going in the "one button" direction (I mean the "play" button on stageCompyfox wrote:...now it's just laptops and/or iPhones only.

Just bought this today and unfortunatly having a bit of buyer's remorse(as much as you can for $10 anyway). I'm not seeing any way to record notes or drums in real time. And the piano roll is finicky. Adding and subtracting notes is a mess. You can't audition sounds in piano roll view. Unless I'm just not seeing it. I've only spent half hour with it so far.

Sequencer or synced tape machine as playback machine... all that was years ago at EDM concerts already.MaxSynths wrote:+1 ...and to be honest I think that we are going in the "one button" direction (I mean the "play" button on stage)

They really need a product-naming division.nbshif wrote:sometimes if i want to improvise a synth part i'll just load up bebot. or if i want to make some loops i'll load up dopplerpad. or if i want some drum machine sounds i can use bleepbox.

@Compyfox: yes, but synchronized devices are a different thing from my point of view: it requires some skills and knowledge (maybe also courage) to make a bunch of synchronized devices to work properly while performing on stage...

you want apple to rename these people's apps? how about iBebot, iDopplerpad, and iBleepBox. better?LBN wrote:They really need a product-naming division.nbshif wrote:sometimes if i want to improvise a synth part i'll just load up bebot. or if i want to make some loops i'll load up dopplerpad. or if i want some drum machine sounds i can use bleepbox.
(edit: they've done stranger things...)

I like that it has 3 synths and a drum machine, but yeah, it's pretty underwhelming as a whole. It's useful but a bitch to work with. Having to set a note playing on the grid and then switching over to synth editing is retarded, but i guess it's meant to work best with the keyboard that's supposed to be out this julyMadPsyance wrote:Just bought this today and unfortunatly having a bit of buyer's remorse(as much as you can for $10 anyway). I just bought the Synthstation 25 on the weekend, and it's a blast! I really didn't expect anything more than a casio toy, but the fact that you can access excellent applications via the iPod/iPhone is a game-changer, imo. So far, I've found 3 apps that work with the controller: Akai's, Nanostudio and iVoxel. Are there any more out there?

Synthstation 25 looks very nice.
Specially with Nanostudio i think.
Eden (the nanostudio main synth) is really impressive.
Is synthstation-nanostudio the smallest (cheapest? lightest?) synth-sampler-drummachine-sequencer keyboard?
Neb, If you find other compatible apps let us know
