Hey Sean,

I just bought it! Looking forward to work with it(waiting for your email)

just get my copy here in geneva, round midnight !

I'm glad, i shall see in the near future how it behaves in a send/return loop in a mix instead of more conventional reverbs

looks amazingly versatile and really unique !!!!!

:tu:

Well, it was around 3 in the afternoon here. When people in Europe get their copy in the early to mid morning - THAT's when I'm up too late. :help:

I thought you had it already! You did the demos with the demo version?

I wrote a blog post about the history of the development of ValhallaShimmer:

http://valhalladsp.wordpress.com/2010/1 ... f-history/

Kinda geeky, kinda not. I go into a bit of detail about how the plugin was designed to embrace artifacts produced by the DSP process.

Yes i did !

it was short enough to avoid without big difficulties the sparse silences !!!!!!!!!

Here an early outline using about 5 instances of valhallashimmer in send/return loops, a mix with a relatively elaborate instrumentaion

About 3 hours of work...

That was really cool, Krakatau. Good f'ing job, man!

@Merlvin J.

thank you !

@valhallasound

Is it effective when i type my own pitch shift ratio on my laptop (0.01 for instance) rather than turning the knobs that doesn't behave such precisely ?
- It is very interesting to have here a variety of slight detuning effets included with all other different combination !

I'm also amazed to notice how much both modulations ( random LFO and slight pitch transposition) can behave very differently in inducing/increasing (with the LFO) or contradicting (with pitch transposing) a feeling of huge dimensions

:)

I don't know if it's pure illusion but in the case pitch shift sounds as it would be at the end of the process chain to my ears ?

Though the contrast is perhaps less spectular after listening carefully on a binaural listening ,i think it is still relevant in these examples, using the same instrument and the same setting of the valhallashimmer plugin, except :

- Dual reverse mode at ±0.10 shift, no lfo :

www.anak-krakatoa.net/~downl/misc/valhallapiano2.mp3

- Bypassed pitch shift mode , modulation setting at 0.75/rate and 0.10/depth

www.anak-krakatoa.net/~downl/misc/valhallapiano1.mp3

I for one, would suggest the headphone as listening contest...

Thank you so much for the 64bit version! You're an awesome and open developer!

It depends on the version of the plugin you are using, and the host. For example, the Windows version of Ableton Live just doesn't allow numbers to be typed in, while the Audio Unit in OSX Live allows numbers to be typed in. Same basic codebase is being used on my end - it has more to do with quirks of hosts.

In order to get more control adjusting the parameter with your mouse/trackpad, hold down the Apple key on the Mac, or CTRL or Option on the PC (sorry, I forget which on the PC). You also can right click on the control, and enter "velocity-sensitive mode," which is much better for fine tuning.

And I agree, that the detuning effects can be very cool. As you have demonstrated in another of your posts, you can get a very cool "detuned" reverb by using one of the dualReverse pitch modes, and using a value between 0.01 and 0.05 semitones for the detuning (or larger ratios, depending on how radically detuned you want things to be).
I'm also amazed to notice how much both modulations ( random LFO and slight pitch transposition) can behave very differently in inducing/increasing (with the LFO) or contradicting (with pitch transposing) a feeling of huge dimensions
Some thoughts on this:

The random modulations increase the perceived modal density of the reverb. The ear is very tuned to hearing resonances in a room, and using the space between the resonances to figure out what the size of the room is. By randomizing the delays, the individual resonances are smeared out, such that they are perceived as a "cloud of resonances" that behave closer to a space with a far greater resonance density - i.e. a much larger space.
I don't know if it's pure illusion but in the case pitch shift sounds as it would be at the end of the process chain to my ears ?

:?:
The pitch shifting happens at the end of the reverb, AFTER the outputs have been taken, right before the feedback loop.

Did you per chance code it while sleeping? :-o
- as you can notice folks, our valhalla aboriginal seems to be also a sleepwalker !

I tried the plug and so far I am very please with the feel of the sound it can produce.

I think I will have lots of fun with that one!

Great job!
