Can Harmony Improvisator do rhythms?

I am thinking of buying Harmony Improvisator. However there is one thing that I don't understand.
Can Harmony Improvisator input more than one whole note per bar? Say I want to have different chords on beat 1 and 3. The demo, the manual, and the web site all only show one whole note per bar.
Or are you supposed to do rhythms in a sheet music program like Finale?
Thanks
Doug

I bought it recently but haven't used it that much yet.Doug B wrote:I am thinking of buying Harmony Improvisator. However there is one thing that I don't understand.

You might contactthem and ask.
Ruth might be able to tell you if it's possible now or whether the feature is planned to be included in an update.

you could always try my selection of algorithmic midi vst or others and see if they work for you.

Yes, thanks rurik.
I guess I forgot you'd developed algorhythmic stuff.
Need to check out your list of offerings again.

Yes you can. There is a slider at the bottom, to the right, that lets you expand the bars.Doug B wrote:Can Harmony Improvisator input more than one whole note per bar? Say I want to have different chords on beat 1 and 3. The demo, the manual, and the web site all only show one whole note per bar.

I don't understand. That slider just scrolls the bars, it doesn't make each bar wider at all, and I still cannot enter more than a whole note for each bar.
I am using the demo if that makes any difference.

There are two sliders. The other one is to the right of the big one, above the current chord's display.
In this video you can see it and also four parts per bar:

Yes I know there are two sliders-and both do the same thing-they just scroll.standalone wrote:There are two sliders. The other one is to the right of the big one, above the current chord's display.

All I see in the video is whole notes. What I want to do is say be able to have three quarter note chords and then two eighth notes.
IF all this software can do is whole notes, then it's pretty useless. I can get the same info on chord types from a bsic music theory book. And it won't cost me $100 or whatever.

I really appreciate the Harmony Improvisator over a book, especially to the "suggestions" it shows you. I don't even use the internal sequencer, I just record my random triggering as I go along, which is something different then reaching for a book and looking for a progression.Doug B wrote: IF all this software can do is whole notes, then it's pretty useless. If you find it too expensive, you can still try some free solution or the W2 Harmonizer from 7Aliens: http://www.7aliens.com/vst-midi-w2-harmonizer.php

No, as I said it spands the bars and let you include chords in the first beat, second beat, etc., exactly what you asked for in your Op. Why would the developer include two sliders side by side that do the same thing?.
It would have been an incredibly relevant information in your first post. This is not a counterpoint plugin.Doug B wrote: What I want to do is say be able to have three quarter note chords and then two eighth notes.

Glad it works for you. What's wrong with a book though? Read what a minor7 chord is once then just use it. Once you know it, you internalize the knowledge.emotica wrote: I really appreciate the Harmony Improvisator over a book, especially to the "suggestions" it shows you. HI's not too expensive, just too expensive for what it does if it only does whole notes, IMO. Price aside, I wasn't aware of the W2 Harmonizer, thanks for that.

Re-read my last post. Neither of the two sliders expand the bars on my copy-don't know why, but that's what happens in my demo copy. Maybe the demo is crippled like that? I might know if the developer gets back to me.standalone wrote:

Re-read my first post where I said: "Can Harmony Improvisator input more than one whole note per bar? Say I want to have different chords on beat 1 and 3. " Do I really need to explain it further? It would have been an incredibly relevant information in your first post. This is not a counterpoint plugin.
Well IMNSHO, a $100 plugin that only does whole notes is next to useless to get a feel for how the chords are going to sound in context. As I mentioned in another post, a basic music theory book on chord types would let you do the same thing.
So just to get it straight, you're saying that the chords only show and sound as whole notes?

Well, I like to do both. I have a fair amount of knowledge to improvise by my own and I like to use something like the Improvisator, while both lead me to different results somehow.Doug B wrote: Glad it works for you. Where did I say that?. I'm telling to you that you can expand (I can expand, at least) the bars and include whole notes, half notes and quarter notes.Doug B wrote: So just to get it straight, you're saying that the chords only show and sound as whole notes?
This plugin is about effective chords progressions via correct voices' movement. If this means nothing to you, you don't need this instrument.
