Some rather peculiar behavior in Reaper on WinXP here. The plugin opened fine in a mostly empty test session, but repeatedly opened with a blank GUI in a more complex session-in-progress. Running 3.V bridged as a dedicated process solved that, but when I later reopened the session, the 3.V patch sounded as if it was reading from the wrong wavetable - I had to reload the patch into 3.V to get it playing correctly again.
It sounds great, though. This is the first software wavetable scanning synth I've heard with a rawness to it that really puts me in mind of older hardware wavetable synths. When I think of the PPG/Waldorf wavetables, this is more the way I expect them to sound. Even fairly straightforward sounds like brass stabs have the PPG stamp on them.

I guess i know what you mean. If i insert PPG Wave 3.v into Reaper i have to choose "Yes" to create 8 instances for the different multi parts and "No" if i want to use a single part only. For normal use i have to choose "No".Vectorman wrote:Some rather peculiar behavior in Reaper on WinXP here. In Ableton Live this is a bit different. If i insert the plugin it will be a single instance but i could route additional midi tracks to the multi channels.
I hope this helps.
A general information: All in all PPG Wave 3.v is quite complex so i suggest to all users to read the manual before (and maybe during) use. I tapped into at least 2 "traps" recently because i was not reading carefully...

Btw. can anybody help where is the manual installed on OS X? I'm pretty computer savvy but forgive me, I just can't find it!! I have even tried searching with possible filenames etc but it just doesn't turn up .. And there's no other installation directory afaik than the components / vst directory and the presets directory .. Or is there?
Edit: my bad!!! Forget it, found it now
I just read the texts more carefully ..

Sorry, but if you pass it because of a missing wavetable editor i couldn't help you, at least not with V1.0. Have fun with ElectaX then...PietW. wrote:Hi,
Thanks for the detailed information but the PPG V3 is no longer on my wish list.
I have no Mac but normally the manuals are inside a folder called "Documentation" inside the installation folder. If you have other Waldorf plugins other manuals could be there too.penguinfromdeep wrote:Btw. can anybody help where is the manual installed on OS X? Thanks Ingo, found it, it was indeed in the documentation folder (on OS X it's installed on /library/documentation/ - default and recommended folder from Apple for manuals), stupid me! I don't read that much manuals normally so don't really go there too often

Yeah, I had to go a-diggin' for it, too!!!penguinfromdeep wrote:Thanks Ingo, found it, it was indeed in the documentation folder (on OS X it's installed on /library/documentation/ - default and recommended folder from Apple for manuals), stupid me! You definitely HAVE to read this thing if you have no experience with a real (or even the virtual "2.V") PPG Wave.
This thing absolutely nails the sound(s) for me -- it's awesome. The filter is DELICIOUS. (And nasty!!!)

Nothing to do with track routing in my case. I realized why some patches are opening up sounding wrong. On some of the patches I've made and saved, when they are re-opened, they open with key follow to wave mod routing at 66%, even though it was at 0% when I saved the patch, hence the wrong positions in the wavetable being read. I can work around it for now, but rather peculiar.I guess i know what you mean. Yea...me too, until I figured it out.b3keys wrote:Totally unable to install this software on a Mac. Keep receiving an installation error - contact manufacturer.
(make sure you first download the code from the email they sent you)
You should leave it be, then restart, then go into applications.
There is some elicenser key looking application (forget the name) there now.
Open it and click on the green arrow to authorize it. Put your pass in, and it will download (must be on-line) the authorization.
Restart, then you can go into your daw, and use it.
Okay?

I don't usually do demo's but since this is unrestricted apart from the time limit and looks so good I'm making an exception.

I won't...
I'm still pissed with the discontinuation of Komplexer...
(Sorry to say, since I have the most respect to Mr. Palm,
which in my book was way ahead of his time - a true visionary)
Cheers

Ah, but while it's been done by Waldorf people (during the time when there essentially was no Waldorf, IIRC), it's been made for and distributed by Terratec. There might well be legal reasons for the discontinuation. I wouldn't blame it on Waldorf.losan wrote:I'm still pissed with the discontinuation of Komplexer...

In all honesty, I'm not that impressed by it either - and the idea that you have to insert a high-quality limiter after it to make it shine - sounds like fanboy talk to me. Heck, I can get anything sound good with some quality outboard.
To be fair, I haven't been digging deep into it and I will. I will read the manual and start mangling it on my own and see what kind of stuff comes out. I am sure I'll be impressed in a way or two.
But I can't understand why there's no bloody riot going on here. I mean... herro?? This is KvR!
Some personal moaning here, but hell yeah. It makes me irritated, and I do feel I have the right to be. I have paid twice for the old PPG now - in the form of the plugin package. Once to Steinberg and once again to Waldorf just two months ago, and now they're telling me that I cannot upgrade to version 3 because it's considered a whole new product? Even Steinberg understood that you couldn't charge the whole userbase the full price when they released Cubase SX - which basically was a rewrite.
Grumpy.

I understand your pain DrGonzo. Maybe you could try to snatch a review copy
In all seriousness, it sounds very good to me without any limiters or processing. But at the moment I'm sucker for oldschool house sounds so it fits perfectly to my needs .. It surely is not for everything I think for pure wavetable goodness there's no better ..
