Great sounding and useful plugin, especially the tape saturation is great. Its really interesting to analyze the output wave with a signal analyizing tool. Looks as tapes doing a lot to the audio material. You can really see the warmth :)

But i'm having issues on my system. Using it in Cubase Studio 5 on PC. Inserted the plugin on several channels and having the problem that the magnetic output volume slowly drops down a bit after some time. Moving the Saturate knob just a bit and the volume jumps back to the right level. I dont use the boost button, just tape saturation.

Couldnt reproduce this in a simple one channel project. Had anyone same issues? what could the problem be?

Did you calibrate the tapehead alignment?

Like the real ones. Its a very accurate emulation but i cant find the calibration knobs :-)

Serious, does no one having similar issues? Its very annoying while mixing... maybe its another plugin that changes the CPU rounding behavior.

Already did that, i was just wondering if someone else having that issue. I'm shure they can and will fix that.

I reported last week a bug with bypass via email. The Bypass function in Cubase 5 doesn't work.
No answer from Nomad Factory. So I dont think Nomads support is quick !

In other word it's the same as off or bypass? I mean it would be crazy to emulate something like DASH.
But where is 'Panasonic Hi-Fi VCR' setting? :hihi:
If you test the frequency response of the DASH setting, you find that there is a slight roll off at high frequencies compared to bypass.
So it's NOT the same as OFF or BYPASS.

You also get harmonic distortion with the DASH setting as you turn up the saturation - which isn't a DASH characteristic...

I'm not sure I'm totally convinced - I feel there should be some HighPass on the 30" setting and on the 15" setting (but an octave lower). Both seem to go down below 20Hz which I wouldn't expect.
Also the 15" setting seems to be -3dB at 10k - which would suggest some head wear!

Good to know it's so accurate (except with saturation) :) OTOH I think I'm going to use my EQ for high freq roll off.

Yep I have compared and as someone already said if you already have VW you dont need this one. I also have Wavearts tubesaturation which is even better than VW but too hungry to use on a single track. But if you got none of them, this one is good enough and cheap.

I'm not shure anymore, no reply until now. But found a forum, maybe we should report bugs there:

Has anyone got this working with Cubase SX3? I've installed the 32-bit demos and they all work perfectly except for Magnetic which crashes SX3 as soon as I try to select a preset - in fact everything disappears instantly and leaves me looking at my desktop. I've been in touch with Nomad Factory but they can't help as they neither have a copy of nor support SX3....

I was talking to the folks at Nomad and they are working on it... An update should be there in the next hours or days...

Cheers - Peter

Kudos to Nomad Factory; Magnetic is sweet. I've found many uses for it, where it excels. Definitely worth the $49, imo.
