some people get great results out of crappy guitars
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I'm sure you play fine, it was me I was referring to. You know me, always self defeating ;) (oh wait, I get plenty of help too  )

I've been playing for 18 years and I've found I like the cheap ones :D well, some cheap ones - they can have just as much character as their more expensive sisters and some are just as well built.

. I also have no problem with playing crap brand names, although all things being equal I'd choose one of the more recognised brands. :D All things are never equal though

That 335 ripoff was a shot in the dark as I bought it off ebay, especially as it's a semi which I find tend to vary in quality more so than solid bodies. only time will tell how it'll hold up, remind me to post in this thread again in ten years with an update :D

I do agree with you though for beginners, buy the best you can.

There are lots of folks who get crappy results out of any guitar.
Some of those don't mind paying good money for a little turd polishing.
Just keep it under wraps ... :scared:
A good way to finance your own GAS. :D
The same is true for vocals and other instruments.
Lol,

That said, I can only support Mike - life's too short for bad instruments.
Buy s/h instead of new and cheap, and don't buy with the eyes, use your ears and fingers instead, maybe even bring an experienced colleague.

that's all you needed to say, crappy is so subjective...I have read other guitarists question how Brian May plays his guitar. I have read the word 'crap' I'm sure when describing it by others. The point is buy second hand, buy brand new or buy a collecters item...the only rule is buy what pleases you. Even if it's a...a...damn, I can't say it :hihi: but if you like one of those overpriced canoe paddles or their more expensive big brother the cruise ship anchor then buy it

Watch out, I smell an endorsement deal coming up ! :P
What's wrong with you, I miss the furnace and stuff ! :hihi:
Lol,

Nothing wrong with Brian May imho.
Great original player, though I prefer his older stuff by far.
"Good Company" alone is sufficient for a nomination imho.
If only he had left Bad Company alone ...

Ooooo, ooooo, ooooo, I like to say bad words

Got offered a Gordon Smith Graduate s/h with minor cosmetic flaws only for £175! Did not bite as i am on a total gear ban/no money spending except daughter's birthday and both kid's christmas presents until January, it was bloody so tempting for around the same price i have paid and will pay for single dirt pedals...Anyway it turned out after an e-mail with pictures attached that it was a left-handed model and that made me feel a whole lot better/much less gutted :phew: Funny thing is i am a lefty but play regular  always have done :)

I agree, I prefer before hot space but his solo album was pretty good and Brian May and Friends with EVH (Starfleet Project) is very 'human', some wonky notes, an endless jam, some great playing, and some 'oops'

Now that you mention it ...
Completely forgot about that one.

Yes, that was fun !
