Hi there, I recently bought an Akai SynthStation 25 and I'm impressed with how I can use it to control the Akai Synth Station app via midi from my DAW. I'd like to be able to do this with nano studio but it doesn't seem to recieve midi from my DAW, just the Synth Station keyboard.

I love the idea of using the iPhone as a sound source to feed a sampler, use as a drum machine and sequence synth loops. Apps I like to use are the iZotope iDrum apps for beats, Finger Bassline for 303 loops (nice filters and FX), Akai SynthStation, Nano Studio (both usful as synths and sample fodder), Beat Maker, Thump, and Argon.

What iPhone apps do you use regularly in your music compositions, or would you just use them as a scetch pad fopr later use?

I look forward to hearing your opinions,

simon

I would contact them because this says it is compatable http://www.blipinteractive.co.uk/specifications.php I was thinking of the Akai as a poss xmas gift.

I wouldnt use it as a main instrument but I would maybe use it for the odd part here or there, maybe as something else to play with live.

I also like the moog app and am going to get the i-rig because pumping sounds into that will be great fun.

I use DXi for FM type sounds beyond what Nanostudio's Eden can approximate with it's FM1/FM2/FM3 oscillator choices. For awhile I used some Wave Alchemy samples for the TRG-16 but have recently just been using the Edens and resampling to make my drum sounds. I have a dedicated project/song called DrumSynth where I make and store all my drum/percussion/sfx, anything that I am going to want to trigger off the TRG-16.

Xenon is pretty cool, too, but Nanostudio is more powerful overall. I use Bassline myself for 303ness. NLog MIDI is a nice synth, too.

Aura Flux doesn't have any kind of audio copy, but it's a fun app for ambient/generative music.

TwistedWave is great for manual glitching.

Bleep!box is an awesome synth-based beatbox app.

I use Nanostudio on the iPad blown up, but am eagerly awaiting Amidio to release MINT.io :D iElectribe and Electrify are my main favorite beatboxes on the iPad, but I use NLog Pro a lot to make sounds for Electrify.
Meh.

Can tw import folders of samples or does it use iTunes file sharing, single files.

Or when importing from iPod lib can it preview?

I have emailed the dev but no reply.

I haven't tried any of those, I usually just record something with the mic, mess it all up, and save it for export.

It was supposed to get audio copy/paste in the last update but for the life of me I can't find where to use it in the app

When i inquired about copy/paste before I knew it was coming in an update, the response was pretty quick. After the update came out I posted on their forum and have yet to receive a response.

It did get it... you have to create a new file, then open the file in the editor. Click on the "Paste" button on the bottom of the editor and the AudioPaste window will show up, allowing you to choose the file you want pasted in.
There are rocketships outside of my window. Really: www.cosmo.org

Hi Scott

Any idea on the file import options.

The developer is impossible to get any reply from.

As far as I can see, Twisted Wave imports via iTunes or the iPod Library, with no preview. And yeah, that's individual files, not folders. AudioPaste allows for previewing from its window, but the files must obviously be AudioCopied first (and you can only have twelve copied in at one time).

ok cheers Scott, still no sample manager for iOS then.

Electrify can open zipped folders as can isequence so it can be done.

this did nothing for me :( Paste is greyed out. Oh, I had to long-press on Paste.
