So, Yellow Tools released the long-awaited Independence 3.0 update today. Promising many appropriate improvements, I'm tempted to go for it at some point (paying 29 eur). However, given the track record of many people here being less than satisfied with the support lately, I'm wary of taking the plunge first :hihi:

My current stance is a careful "if it works, don't fix it", but if I hear it's a smooth and well thought out update process, I'll go for it. My installation of Independence Pro (plus Candy, Majestic and Culture) works 100%, and although some of the additions in 3.0 are things I would very gladly put to use, I'm especially concerned when reading this on the YT site:

"Since the Independence Pro Software Suite is coming with an entirely new architecture and structure, a completely new installation is required. You will find a detailed update guide PDF with all information about the installation process of your existing products on the start page of the User Area."

If/when someone has done the above, I'd appreciate hearing how it went :)

I previously had problems with 2.5.4 and hoped an update would come. I gambled £25 on the update; it seems to have paid off. I haven't encountered any of the library authorization problems or weird crashes that have plagued me for months (touch wood). I guess that's due to the 'improved' authorization system (.XML instead of .LIC) and apparent increased stability.

To update, you install the v3 software suite. Then you move your image and layer files to your own specified folder. Next you're supposed to move any license files; I didn't have any so I reauthorized the sound library. I couldn't get the libraries to show for a while (which was confusing), until I figured you need to (re)authorize them before they will appear. Once I'd done that everything worked.

If anything bad happens I'll let you know. So far, so good. I'm glad Inde Pro finally works on my machine, because I really like the sounds. I'll take a look at some of the other additions.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I like the sounds a lot, too. That's why I'm being quite cautious, not willing to risk it in case it turns out to be a hassle update. Glad to hear it seems this promising :)

Hi,
what do you mean by "reauthorize the library"? I tried to update to 3.0 and now am having some problems to use it. The installation went fine (although I'm not so keen about the fact that I the installer doesnt allow to specify the location for the "Application folder" and executables (Windows), very similar to the Kontakt installation actually) and Stanalone program and plugin load successfully, it doesnt work to load any layers from the library. I already created a "User folder" and moved my old Indie 2 layers, presets, image files etc in this folder. Then I specified this User Folder in the Preferences page and restarted Independence. Now all my old layers etc show up in the menu, but when I load any layer from the library it asks me for the location of the corresponding image file. When I give it the right location in my User Folder I get an error nessage ("Cannot load files; You can only load/drag and drop files that are located in the Audio Files/Image Files of your YT Root Folder"). There are no problems, if I load a layer from the "Third Party Libraries" folder.
This all applies to the VST version of Indie 3, the standalone version freezes when loading any layer. Any help would be very much appreciated. Unfortunately the YT forum is still offline..

I should add in response to the original question, that because of the new "architecture" that your old Independence 2 installation still works fine after updating, since it's actually a new installation. Just keep in mind to leave your Independence Root Folder untouched (copy your layer images etc instead of moving them)

Thanks, that's a good tip. One of those "too obvious for me to actually realize" things :D. That's 70 extra gigabytes occupied during the transition period, of course, but nevertheless it's a sure way to stay safe.

So now we have to pay 29 euros for them to fix the origami bug in Independence FX? Wow great.... :x

2 days and 4 emails...and I haven't heard a word from YT. The site still doesn't recognize my INDE pro serial # so I can't purchase the upgrade. It took me multiple tries to get the original INDE Pro activated too... I think their web service just doesn't work worth a squat.

Library problems here too.

Need to study, will sort out later.

I mean that Inde Pro 3 would't load or display any layers until the sound library was reauthorized. If you remember installing 2.5.4, then you'll remember you need to authorize the software suite and the sound library. What I'm saying is that I authorized Inde 3 and my layers wouldn't display or load (even though I'd followed the instructions) until I used another authorization to reauthorize the sound library.

If your problem isn't related to this I can't help you; sorry. It was confusing enough to get it to work on my system.

Where can you authorize the sound libraries?

Thanks for your reply. I guess thats my problem: I never updated to the e-license version of Independence since I was not too happy about paying 29 Euro only to make my two YT dongles worthless. I also didnt have to authorize the library then, the dongle key manager took care of all the activiation stuff.

I already activated the program itself, how is it possible to authorize the library? I cant find an option to do that neither in Independence itself nor in my User area at the YT site. Maybe I should download the lib again

Complete and utter shambles here.

Now I have nothing, In my YT users area it tells me 3.0 is elicenced but neither 2.0 or 2.5 are. It won't allow me to authorize them so I had 3.0 sine wave sound and 3.0 vst effects. nothing else as it will not open the image files.
That was yesterday! today it won't load at all. I've tried fresh installs of everything until I'm blue in the face. NOTHING works.

I've posted an email to YellowTools for a reauthorization or whatever I need to make it work. NO answer in 48 hours.

It would probably have been easier paying up the full 99 euro and forgetting the fact I already paid a lot more for it.

Hopeless indeed.

I added a shortcut to my actual image files folder (in the user folder) into the image files folder of the "application folder". Now it finds the image files, but it says that WIBU protection is not allowed :/
