Hi! I was just made aware of this plugin over at the Reaper-forums:

http://isophonics.net/nnls-chroma

It's basically a plugin which detects chords from audio. The plugin seems to be open source, GPL, on a format called "VAMP".

I think it might be a good idea to make RapidComposer able to host these VAMP-plugins, as it would be sweet to take chords from incoming audio, such as a guitar, an existing song or a specific progression of an existing song.

Just an idea!

Here you can see a video of Chordino in Sonic Visualizer:

Ohhh my... this look seriously cool. The VAMP plugs available currently are able to detect beat and barline tracker, tempo estimator, key estimator, tonal change detector, structural segmenter, timbral and rhythmic similarity estimator, note transcription and finally do harmony and chord extraction.

In any sequencer/DAW this would not be relevant information. But in RapidComposer the result of the analyses would be very useful.

However, from my point of view there's a lot of small things to improve and bugs to be ironed out before a new plug format is to be prioritized...

I agree it is cool. We can support this later (maybe spring 2011) after improving harmonization, chord suggestions and building more music theory into RapidComposer.

Thanks,
Attila

This certainly is a cool idea and BAND IN A BOX already is able to do this.
