one thing :

This weekend I installed "Engine" which is a sample player that comes for free with the DVD of BEAT Magazine in Germany and every month has some samples for it. (at least during the latest two issues)
It apparently uses the YT Independence engine.

I was able to open the BEAT samples with Independence and I was also able to open the Independence Pro library with the Engine VST.

This is good new for me. Engine doesn't require any authorisation and so even if YT does it Kjaehus style, I know I can still work with the library of Independence in the worst case scenario.

Ah, that's good to hear. So, engine comes with every issue? Say I'd get one, is there any issue you'd specifically recommend?

And who supports "Engine"?

From here: http://www.kvraudio.com/db/titan_200_sy ... st_service
ENGINE was developed by Best Service in cooperation with Yellow Tools. It is based on Yellow Tools' high-end sampler Independence Pro and offers all performance features of a contemporary sample engine.
There are some useful Engine manual links on this page:

It looks like "Engine-powered" libraries would still need Activation by C/R
DarkStar, ... Interesting, if true

well the two BEAT issues so far that featured Engine material contained only techno-drum samples and stuff. Not really anything too interesting tbh ;)

which email address do you send to? it says you get the 3.0 files IMMEDIATELY after emailing.
Yes - believe it or not I received my response within 40 minutes of requesting it. It contained my new seial# that was sent Sun @ midnight Yellowtool's (Christian's) time. I don't know if they have an auto-responder (I suspect not as the date of my past purchase would have to be examined) - so I was surprised at the speed/timeliness.

I think "info@yellowtools.de (mailto:info@yellowtools.de)" is the best address to use, but I cc:d the sales and support aliases as well.

So I have registered and D/L'd the new 3.0 engine, but will hold of installing until:
- Their Forum is back up
- And/or some braver soles report success with the upgrade

I'm one of those guys who jumped at the fire sale, and got everything working from the get go. Sounds great. It's a sad state of affairs if these are signs that YT and Independence are on their way down, as I really do think the sounds are something special. Doesn't feel fair, in a way :?

I haven't had the need to contact support at any point, but I do realize it has obviously left a lot to be desired, and therefore I can't think of Independence Pro as future proof at the moment, so to speak. To be sure: Indie Pro + Candy + Culture + Majestic is a fantastic combo, and I'd probably still risk it if I didn't have it (heck, I did during the fire sale, for more money), but I can't be sure of being able to use it a couple of years from now, which is a shame.

I also don't have the guts to update at this point (even at the 29 eur mark), as I already have a functioning installation and don't want to end up with a broken one. That's why I started a thread on the 5th, right after I noticed the update was released, to detail the situation and specifically collect the experiences of the people who have gone ahead with the update procedure :)

No response from YT on my two mails. If even a potential customer isn't worth an answer, I guess I better spend my money elsewhere.

Thank-you, one and all, for this invaluable thread!

I got the YTP 2.5.4 everything 'fire sale' package this past summer; great deal overall (w/no real problems either installing or using), but because of what you guys have shared here, I'll pass on the upgrade...

Definitely one of those scenerios where: 'If it ain't broke....'

It's crazy really . All it would take was a visit or two to this forum from a YT or Best Service rep and maybe it would instill some confidence!!They seem keen to nab our money but not keen to do any kind of interaction.

Anyway I got my update sorted as mentioned on the other thread, although it took about 6 hours of head scratching before I got it working. No thanks to support though. I feel sorry anyone who isn't trouble shooter and just wants to get on an create some music.

I tried Independence Pro on TrySound. Was having a pretty good time with it for the first couple of minutes... then it crashed.

I took it as a sign.

I got a reply to one of my mails. Interestingly the one I sent second. At least the content of the mail was informative and fully answered my questions.

Took a few days for YT to respond to my issue ( site wouldn't recognize my serial for Inde Pro ) Got a response and a nice consolation prize from YT. They have their issues with lack of support personal... but every time I've been able to get through and they responded...it's been a good experience. I think they're ok. And I think their software and quality of sounds smoke NI. They just don't quite have the momentum yet. YET

Just a general question - it appears the yellow tools download instruments (YTIF files) are encrypted data files. Does anybody know any more about that, and if they can be extracted into other formats?

The thing is, I feel kinda naked if I can't convert the instruments I purchase from Akai, Kontakt or Giga, etc. into SFZ so that I can make my own mappings and adjust the levels and velocity ranges, and so that I can also compose with those instruments on my notebook when I'm far from the studio.

Cheers for any tips...

It's not an open format then and nothing you can do about it.

For open formats have a look at:
http://www.extranslator.com/

I don't know why you feel you have to convert to sfz to tweak. A full licensed version of Kontakt can do that as all the other major samplers.

which email address do you send to?
GMusic:

I found that the Yellow Tools online support form doesn't work as well as direct e-mail. After two days of no response, I sent my support request to info@yellowtools.com. I received a reply from Christian at his support@yellowtools.com address within ~90 minutes. Perhaps one of those addresses will work for you.

I suspect Yellow Tools support is buried right now. I won't attempt to justify their unresponsiveness for those unfortunate users who've experienced it, but I think they're trying to do the right thing. Putting myself in their place, if everyone is reading them the riot act right now, they're probably feeling pretty defensive, and therefore not particularly receptive to griping customers...even if the gripes are justified.

On that basis, you'll probably get farther with a teaspoon of honey than an barrel full of vinegar, if you catch my drift. :D
