So I have a question about this for Urs.

From what I read, you been analysing analogue synth / modules for a while now and one output from this is ACE, if I'm right?

Does DIVA / Tyrell / YouNameIt will be having the same performance as ACE or will it be a bit lighter on the CPU or am I totally wrong here and there is no real connection between any of these? :D

Tyrell won't have the patch cords, and that's already a big performance gain. Tyrell only has 1 filter, that's the next performance gain. Tyrell's "Mod Oscs" are still LFOs, they don't go beyond 1 kHz. That's the next peformance gain.

I think that Tyrell will use less cpu than ACE. As will Diva.

On it's way, but I don't want to deliver anything half assed. I deserve to have some fun inbetween

Sorry if I've missed this info. Thanks Urs.

My question is, who is putting up the cash to build the hardware. I work on music equipment with Chinese CMs everyday and know that even with a cut down feature set, this is going to be a very expensive project.

What do you think? Tooling will cost $150-$200k for the case alone, and that's before a single unit is produced. This is easily a $800k - $1.2 million+ project, that is if you're planning on using typical/readily available parts. If things get exotic the cost will go up considerably. How many units will be produced? I'd figure you'd have to sell 5k or more to be profitable.

I know I sound arbitrarily discouraging but I like you Urs and would be bummed to see you get wrapped up in a project that ended up ruining your business. Forgive me for asking but how tightly is this project tied with U-He? Are you just working on the software version or are you part of the dev team for the hardware? Are you putting up cash?

I know this is an exciting thing for a lot of people but frankly, it's scary to me.

Contrary to all that...

I'm happy to know that this is a project that you are doing for the joy of it. I know this past year has been tough for you, you deserve to do something for your own enjoyment. :tu:

I'm thinking he would not be at liberty to discuss such details of that type of project in a forum like this.
Just a hunch.
...but you never know.

It'll be released on the *free* Amazona online magazine first, but later I'm also going to put it on my sound design forum. It's going to be a bait to sign up there.

Of course you are right. It was a rhetorical question more than anything, and it comes off as more judgmental than I typically like to be. Feel free to disregard.

Thanks man! I'll be watching :tu: Oh ! I'll also be picking up MFM 2 and ACE early this coming year so watch your inbox :D

Nothing like it.

Amazona made a full (!) market research and developed the idea on user input, together with some German synth guru called "Moogulator" (www.sequencer.de). If a hardware company is seriously interesetd in using that data, they would hand it over for the kudos.

I'm surfing the wave by doing a freebee. I don't spend cash and I hardly spend time beyond stuff I'm doing anyway, besides of a week or two of fun.

Thanks for your candor. You're really a one of a kind dude. I'll do more research before flying off the handle next time. :hihi:

Perhaps I'm dense (and I don't read German), but can someone describe what this synth does? From Urs description, it sounds like it might be a simplified version of ACE. I'm wondering what kind of synthesis, features, etc. Thanks.

You are way off the mark here ;)
I build a lot of hardware and know a bunch of guys who have built to as high a quality as the renders shown
I actually know somebody who is building a Blofeld type synth in his spare time at the minute that has multiple synthesis engines
Don't get stuck in the mindset that mass manufacture is the only way to do this

It can be built for a fairly minimal outlay for a prototype
The product runs built in this way would be expensive but not so much compared to major developers

It is surprising what you can get made for you in machine shops and so on now ;)
