No it's true unfortunately. You can only initialize in the full version. How this could possibly help sales I have no idea. Combine that with the 10 minute demo so you have to spend a few minutes resetting everything first to get an init patch, and it almost seems like they're trying to get you to not buy it! And they also remove the resynthesis ability and other things.

Well I bought it anyways. I'm underwhelmed by the resynthesis as it only takes a tiny bit of the waveform in the middle of the sample, I thought it would resynthesize enough of it to sound remotely like the source, but it just ends of being a random cycle of the waveform, so really just useful for single cycle waves or getting a completely random waveform out of a sample. Would have been nice to know with the demo. But the rest is still awesome.

On another note, I thought there was supposed to be a random patch under the INIT menu, but I don't see one. Anyone?
that isn't even resynthesis then... deceptive term, unless you are missing something
Nah, you've got to be wrong. The super nice people at Tone2 would never label something in a vague way and remove the feature from the demo unless that feature was tip-top.

But seriously, if what you said is true and the demo contains a bunch of sounds that are obviously entirely resynthesized full samples... that's amazingly bad form. Can someone confirm?

Guys, the solution on how to use init patches in the demo version was given in this thread. C'mon!
Finally!

No, the demo does not contain full samples that are resynthesized. It contains all the same wavetables and waveforms of the full version. so there's nothing misleading going on here. The demo just doesn't let you try the resynthesis function to see how it works. I may yet be missing how to resynthesis longer samples properly, but everything I try it on ends up as a short waveform (sometimes complex though), that has no characteristics of the original sound. So it's more useful as a custom wavetable import. You can also load full samples that just play back as samples (not resynthesized) but it can only playback normally or loop the entire file, no loop points within it. The import vocoder is kind of cool, let's you use one osc as sample for modulator of the vocoder and the others as the carriers. But yeah, I was hoping for resynthesis like some of the waveforms in gladiator (like a guitar pluck or something), but unless I'm mistaken, you can't resynthesize things like that. But hey, that's what I've got Alchemy for!

I don't recall what it was exactly as I'm on the full version now anyways. Was it editing something in one of the text files? Maybe you'd like to share with the newcomers so that they don't have to check through 27 pages of this thread?

+1!

There's a button on the UI that says init but it doesn't have init patch and only works with the full version anyway.

I am sure the lack of init patch in the demo version will be corrected in a new version of the synth. It doesn't make any sense to leave it out, in fact, it doesn't make sense to leave anything out of a demo version, since the demo version is for people to evaluate all the synth's features before buying a full version.

Yeah i'm not sure what Tone2s thinking is with all the restrictions but i'm interested in Electrax specifically for the resynthesis as i want to load my own waveforms, loops and samples and use Electraxs' engine to layer and modify the sound; i'd have to buy it just to try it out? And then find out as Echoes In The Attic did that it didn't work in the way i had hoped? :?

I'd love to be able to at least demo these functions even if it's a 10 minute demo, it's enough time to try these features upon which i could then base a buying decision!

+1 -- this company's killing my interest in the synth by dragging their butt on the "limitations" in the demo. I was excited by what I saw in this synth, but I simply CANNOT base or even justify a $200 purchase on what the current demo limitations restrict.

Meanwhile, I've been plugging away at DUNE and PPG Wave 3.V with no trouble at all. I intended to get both of them, anyway, but they provide IDEAL demo experiences, whereas ElectraX does not.

+1 yes, PPG 3 has 100 day "UNRESTRICTED" demo and sounds fantastic!!! I've created presets in the demo and saved them already! I tried a lot of Tone 2 products and like them - very innovative... but the demo restrictions are a buzz kill. Good luck Markus, but once again (as in Gladiator) I will pass and buy something else - PPG 3 and Dune.

..and there are still massive bugs...and since the release- there is no information how they will fix it!
But Electrax sounds great and it is easy to use (i mean only the full-version!)
I hope there will be an update soon!

A problem inherent with many initial releases. Not unusual.

I've had my share of email dialogues with Marcus in the past, and have been more than satisfied with the speed at which issues are addressed.

Just to keep things balanced, from the perspective of a registered user:
The current bugs are not show-stoppers at all. There are a few issues which I'm sure will sorted out fairly quickly. They do have good support at tone2 despite some obvious PR issues sometimes.
Hopefully they will reconsider they're crippling demo restrictions. I think they are seriously paranoid about anyone being able to use the demo in a production in any way. Even if it was only 10 minutes long, it should at least be able to do all the functions. I think some people would be pretty disappointed by the resynthesis if they were expected more (like to be able to resynthesis full audio files over 4096 samples in length).
For myself, the wavetable and fm functionality with these amazing filters are still worth it. If the sample import got a granular mode, this would be the ultimate.

or if you have my schedule - 1 hour a day for 100 days. Still though it is "UNRESTRICTED" functionality.

I really like the tone2 products...that is not the point. But the bugs I mean are really bad: massive cubase crash if you only change "filter-decay" and close gui- reopen-crash! next thing: load a patch...do some adjustments..close gui..reopen gui...the sound of the patch is still the same but the browser shows another patchname...and if you choose the patch you' ve loaded before close the gui..you see that all adjustments are gone...next: you can't do any changes on a synth (layer), which is "off" without its switch automaticly to "on"...and all these in the full-version! .....but don't get me wrong- the synth is great! I hope they fix it soon
