Hi

I'm looking for a good 'sample organiser'
  • play (looping correctly)
  • with a next sample hotkey like win amp 6 on the keypad
  • move cut copy delete
  • wav (including 24bit)
  • rex files?
  • PC XP
I have Ableton Live ,but I use a swap caddy to keep my music OS away from all the other stuff (I swap the drives physically) but the data drives (with samples on)stay on my PC at all times.

anyway
sometimes i want to just listen through and copy paste delete edit move samples .(like when I'm put on hold on the telephone or something :)) but i am on my other operating system rather than the music one (so no ableton etc)

I have to use winamp so the 24 bit files play and loop correctly
and i can press 6 6 6 6 6 next next next when listening to samples. but moving or editing is a pain if winamp is playing the file.

I could install ableton on my office drive but is there a good sample player editor out there that does all of the above :)

Cheers

Iced Audio's Audio Finder is the best by far but MAC only, For simple copy paste jobs on files (no REX/REX2 support though) Foobar2000 is great - I use it as my main audio player, there are alot of good add-on components such as a VST one which lets you use any vst plug-in on the audio. It is totally bloat free also and deals with audio only and does not try to take over your whole setup ala iTunes and Media Player...etc. Its dope, that with ifoundasound and maybe ExtremeSampleConverter (commercial/payware) should cover your needs well IMHO

Thanks

I'm checking all these out today

I use the light version of Winamp to play samples at the moment.

its good because it opens fast, plays 24bit, and even MIDI, and loops correctly. but the moving stuff around is a pain because winamp locks the files. I also had to set up winamp to display the file-name and sort by for mp3.

I'm on a PC. I'll defo check my way though the suggestions

someone on another post spoke of a sample player from ages ago 1995 that could play samples (with up and down arrow) and then if the person pressed 'space bar' it would save the sample to a different location. - how cool would that be :)

you'd knock up a folder of faves in 10 minutes :)

anyway I'll check out these suggestions cheers :)

I'm on a PC I had a look through the links

Do any of these play rex files?

do any have a click to save to designated folder, it looks like basehead has this feature, so i can listen though and save off in one click kinda thing. I don't think basehead plays rex files though.

..well, i was thinking more on the sample organization aspect over the rex file support. i think it may be hard to find an "organizer" with rex file support. You could use something like:

UVI Workstation
http://www.uvisoundsource.com/article_i ... icles_id=8

...or another rex file type player and do the organizing in one of the other software listed above. Personally I've used SampleCatalog to organize samples even though it doesn't play 24-bit WAV files. It still can organize any of the files with whatever tags i can dream up. (I've been looking for a new organizer to try myself however since the development has ceased on SampleCatalog and it does have its limitations).

Since Breezer is in Beta perhaps your desires could be something you could suggest to the developers.

cheers

Its funny, i though of the uvi player when i posted about rex files

I used to use it but it crashed a few times so i uninstalled

but to listen through samples it would be good.

Hi guys,

I'm a developer of Revel Software which produces Breezer, so here I have a conflict of interest...

We listened [as usual] to our user base and the result was that in October we added REX file support to Breezer 2012. Obviously we aren't in beta stage :)

File moving and tagging capabilities will be part of Breezer 2013 which is under development [for more info http://blogs.revel-software.it about Breezer 2013]

Bye
