btw today I spent about 4 hours total just working out some parts, I used my xt live

While we're waiting for 'realistic ampsims,' maybe there's a lot of 'tone exploration' to be done with what we already have available.

I will admit, it gets frustrating at times, trying to get 'the right tone' with these ampsim thingies.

But there are definitely a lot of possibilities there.

It would be great to have a studio, and 100-watt B-52 just cranked way up... but alas i'm in a small apartment and have to deal with ampsims.

It's frustrating, but it's often a lot of fun as well.

The thing of saving favorite presets/signal chains; that's a big timesaver.

Ok I've tried the Vandal demo.......or at least attempted to try the demo. In between crashes I did manage to try a few presets and do a few tweaks. This thing goes down more times than a 2 dollar hooker............Changing Stomp Models or just changing presets locks it up.

From what I could tell in between crashes it's just horribly jangly and and devoid of balls . I don't know what kind of sounds you guys are after but this thing is too weak for me.............no sustain, no life, as I said earlier like the signal is tacked on top and not part of the sound. In other words just like all the other PC Software sims I've tried. I'll give it another go but so far I wouldn't use this if it was free although it does suck less than some of the other plugins I've tried.............I'm sure there will be some......mild disagreement. :hihi:

Ok I deleted Vandal.....it's the worst piece of Crap demo I've installed in a long time. I have to assume the full version is stable but the demo just crashed time after time here. Look at all the crap in red the demo installs:

It's an effect plugin for crisake not an operating system. Rubbish.

That's a whole different argument that I'd rather not see started again and one that you will most certainly lose.........

I'm sorry you have had a negative experience with Vandal but at least you gave it your best shot. TBH I think the crashing is something that should concern you, while I'm sure there have bee others I cannot think of any others complaining about crashes, it's surely not a common theme...but I have not tried it in FL and I do not spend any time on the FL forums. :)

you just never realized how crap your cabinet/amp combo was because it was what you had. pick any software with the three features i listed above and use it; remember, utter crap is a feature.
My J Station sounds better than anything you could cobble together in software of that I am quite confident............
Sounds better to you. I had one and I thought it was pretty crappy sounding, though I did like my Johnson amp. Maybe it was the J-Station's cab simulation I didn't like.

If you're spending more time tweaking and less time recording then maybe its time to scale down. It's so damn easy to get lost in all the variations and possibilities a good ampsim can offer. No doubt about it: Scaling down has helped me a lot!

I own a few ampsims, and now I just use 2. I've created Preset chains for my gear using Reaper and now when I need an amp I use my own preset. Simple.

My lead guitarist, on the other hand, HATES ampsims with a passion. He's an Old School guy, knows his sh*t, and just can't be bothered by the sims. He recently laid down some tracks for a tune of mine, and he mic'd his Marshall using a 57, nailed his sound, and everything worked out great.

Hope this helps.

Understand & respect anyone who wants to spend more time playing notes than playing with knobs . . .

for me, I've dialed-in 3 tones within software into LIVE : one beautiful RolandJC clean with a touch of chorus and verb that accounts for 75% of my playing, one slightly crunchy Marshall-ish for chords, one searing white-hot lead tone to channel my inner Neil Young. Once dialed-in, I haven't felt the need to modify these very satifying vst efx settings

there is another category of tones - an effect part within a song that perhaps ping-pongs left to right or has an octave efx for a riff. That stuff can take a couple of hours to program. I don't practice with these funky efx, it's only for fun

THANK YOU! Finally someone who sees it my way! Vandal just isn't all that! (...and yes, it does crash like a drunk 17 year old, constantly :| )

this is quite similar to me, I'll save presets and often use those as my defaults. However I play for different reasons, sometimes it's fun to sit down and just mess around with new tones while not recording anything...I'm just playing for savage amusement. Sometimes those times lead to an inspiration, but when sitting down to record tracks and get some 'work' (hat to use that word really) the last thing I want to do is kill my creativity while searching for a tone. Like I said I record two re-amping tracks, so often I go right to the presets I have made in my xt live as a reference amp.

Later when I'm wearing the mixing cap there is plenty of time for experimenting with different sims and soon I'll be buying the radial re-amping kit to properly send a signal to an amp for re-amping as well.

there is no wrong answer to this question because if you have better things to do I understand. But if sascha were to come into this thread would the two of you be open to disscussing the crashes with him?
