I think if you offered your services to Britain this week,
the stranded mob at Heathrow would carry you on shoulders to
10 Downing Street, and send the current residents on
a one way trip to the North Sea :hihi:

Oops, I'm totally unaware of the news (no tv, carefully avoid newspapers, radio and magazines...). What's going on over there?

In a nutshell, the Brits chose not to buy snow removal gear, failed to train
employees to use what gear they had, then saddled those employees with a phonebook
of Health and Safety regulations, so they wouldn't dare go out and de-ice the planes
and stairs that lead to them, so a few inches of snow turned Europes biggest airport into the worlds largest homeless camp. Its a titanic team effort to prove last winters incompetence was not a fluke, and prove that politicians, like sludge, sink to the bottom
even after a shakeup.

They have 30 BILLION pounds to build a new toy train between London, and Birmingham,
but learning to drive snowplows, and squirt de-icer is evidently harder than
additive synthesis on a synth with only Chinese manuals  :hihi:

Post

To make it worse, in places where the snow was deeper, there are factions of authorities
singing different tunes, one says you could be sued for not clearing the snow at home or business, another says you could be sued if you did, and another says no one will sue
you regardless, as long as you're a nice person who meant well. Lawyers have the table
rigged at all corners :-o

I hope none of your nice prizes are shipping airmail from England, it appears the thousands of cancelled bookings have tens of thousands of unnacounted travel bags
waiting in a jumble, and heading abroad separate from their owners

Post

Actually, that's exactly how things work here in Italy, from the smallest to the biggest, always... they don't make the news, but sure make life here some sort of survival game :(
Hopefully politicians there will learn their lesson after this snow incident, but I'm afraid they are the same all over the world :?

OK, I haven't been able to prepare the page on my website for it, but I have uploaded the album where the track from this OSC appears - if you want, you can download it (mp3 or wav, cover included in the zip, all free of course):

http://www.macvibes.com/TEMPORSOUNDS/FR ... hT-MP3.zip

http://www.macvibes.com/TEMPORSOUNDS/FR ... hT-WAV.zip

I haven't been able to check the zips yet, should there be something wrong with them or the contents, please let me know.

Off to town for the last couple of xmas gifts now...

Mac of BIOnighT wrote:Wow, thanks everybody!!!! :-o :D  And thanks to Mik, I've won two OSC's so far and both of them with a gtg synth - man, your stuff just oozes quality :) Too bad there weren't more voters (I still think voters should win something, that'd attract more of 'em), I'm sure the battle would have been much more fierce, as all the tracks were great!
I must admit I'll be particularly boasting about the fact that all the voters gave me a vote (except for dswel, but she loved my bubbles, so that counts as a vote in my book  ), I'm really honored!

Down to the material side of things now: I guess I'll choose the Korg legacy MS20; I've been drooling over it for quite some time and just knew I could never have it (not with my paycheck)
:tu: Congratulations, properly deserved win and prize award. Looking forward to what you'll make of the MS20.

Unfortunately I missed voting this time with a buggered headset on holiday, but I already had you for top score almost on first hearing before I left, but it wouldn't have made a difference to the final score.

Second score would probably have gone to you Tattie, seems you regulars really did well with this synth. In a way ironic that it was with such a straight-up synth when (I think) you both enjoy the quirky and unusual ones, but in the end I guess it's all to with the sound anyways.

Anyway, found your winning song proper old school tangerinesque electronica and well composed with a story being told.

Finally big thx to Tattie for final official duties with this comp done with. :tu:

Wow, congratulations! And 5 weeks like that are a very good idea ;-)
BTW; is it a boy or a girl?
V'ger wrote:Field recordings like you say is a brilliant idea, but have no real equipment for it.
If you have an iphone or something like that, don't underestimate its mic: FaBIO and I used some sounds he recorded on BIOnighT's latest album as well as in the next one, and you'd be amazed by the quality of the recordings when you hear it on your stereo...
Thx, got a boy in January. Now a spoilt little brat.. :-o We had this idea of taking our due leave now after seeing studies where summer born kids turned more outgoing being warm and outdoory when they 'wake' up around their first birthday compared to winter kids, so let's see if it works.

About field recordings, I only have an ageing Sony Ericsson (W995) with Java. Have installed Vibe like suggested Dwsel, thx for the tip, and been briefly playing around with it, but my earbuds broke on the plane and am unable to find a decent replacement..

But our smaller camera has surprisingly good stereo sound, so will actually try to scope out something to use, but now I'm stumped what kind of sound I should go for.. There are a lot of ambient sounds like in the market etc, and some lizard and bird sounds, but are they really useful for a track?

Glad it works for you! Quality of sound in Vibe unfortunately depends only on GM samples your phone has (my Nokia 3120 classic was surprisingly good at it while my new Samsung B7300 Omnia Lite sounds really plastic compared to previous one). Sorry about the earbuds - I know they can be real pain to find if you have non standard audio output.

Longer recordings are good for ambient tracks and sampled louder/shorter sounds can be turned into creative percussive sounds too. Not very usable for OSCs though :P unless... you make 'One SAMPLE Challenge' :hihi: - to create from a single sample whole song by using heavy processing (like in Troels Folmann's from Tonehammer experiments http://www.troelsfolmann.com/blog/?p=160 and http://www.troelsfolmann.com/blog/?p=112)

But again that should go into General OSC Discussion thread :)

The sounds are not that bad on the SE, but of course haven't tried them all. Just got Vibe going and did a beat with it mostly.

I normally use the phone quite a bit for composing as ideas usually come when I'm not in the studio, and then it's really neat for humming into. But haven't done that either here, seems I'm gonna go for a full pause from all music while on leave.

I'm definitely gonna go for this idea as I bought Valhalla Shimmer and can now imagine a lot of the insect and creepy-crawly sounds here come out well with massive verb on. Actually gonna search out some sounds to use when home. F.i. they love cockfights over here and apparently the crowd go completely wild. Should be a useful thing to have among others as I can be right in the middle of it. Will go to the marked hunting for BG sounds as well.

Thanks, that's very kind of you :) The MS20 sounds just amazing, I can't wait for the Xmas commotion to be over so I can start using it :-)

Definitely! THANKS Mannie!!!!

This sounds very interesting... I've always thought there's some truth in astrology regarding characters and characteristics, not because of the stars, but because of the time of the year when one is born, so this theory sounds very reasonable to me. I was born in September, so what kind of character should I have, according to this study?

Oh, I thought it was 1st only who get prizes, woops :) Hmm, after looking I'll go the "Miles'tone - Virtual trumpet" from GSI.

Anyway, I might see if I can squeeze in an entry for OSC23 using one of the subtractive synths from Reaktor.

Post

OK Mikrip ... I'll get that organised :)

Yeager? Tempted?? :)
