Finally get my download link, so, after the complaints, the rewards.
This synth really rocks ! I am really impressed by the cpu low cost efficiency and the sound I get !! It completes my gear and brings its own character and "sonicality" and will join Alchemy in my top synths used. Worth the buy and worth the wait ! Especially people with low config should really give it a test.
Note that I don't get crash with the filter enveloppe decay and gui thing described some pages before( on Live 8.2.1).

Glad to read all those positive impressions :tu:

90% of the presets that come with this Plug sound absolutely terrible to my ears and who needs a male/female voice saying 1-2-3-4, a cheezy panflute, tons of anachronistic video game sounds and all those harsh sounding vocal pads?

I had thought of doing a sound bank for this but I won't, everything about this Plug puts me off somehow, bye ElectraX, you have been deinstalled already.
I have to say I really don't agree with this assessment. I found the presets I tried to be well designed and relevant to the sound of dance and trance music today, which is pretty much all I would expect from tone2, and is perfectly fine with me. This synth reminds me of Nexus, but is probably better, and for the certain niche that is appropriate for that sound, I think it is an excellent choice.

I'm teetering on buying it now, but may wait to pay down a credit card or two. I was hoping I would get the email with the discount offer, since I own Firebird+, but since I bought it used I guess I can't blame them for not including me in that. :D

@aymericf
Can You try two other things, please?
1. choose a patch (but not the first in its category)...do some adjustments (filter cutoff)..close gui...open gui...Is the patchname the same like before You closed the gui? And are the adjustments you've done still there?
2. switch a synth (layer) "off"...and try do make some adjustments...switch the synth automatically "on" only if you touch a knob?
If you can't confirm this you are a lucky man! ;)

so, 20+ days later, is there any update in your thoughts about Tone2's new synth? (I just tried the -limited- demo...)

Why other companies have Xmas prices, but Tone2 not?

ElectraX is a BEAST!!! I've had it for about ten days now and the possibilities with it for sound design are inspiring indeed. This synth is downright fun!!

And it just sounds really good. I much, much prefer this synth's overall sound to that of DUNE. There is something fuzzy/unfocused about DUNES sound, I can't put my finger on it. Maybe Synapse fixed that with the 1.2 oscillator update.

ElectraX just vibes with me better. The way they laid things out makes creating custom, really expressive and playable sounds easy as hell. After a quick scan through the manual, I had my head completely wrapped around it and was totally at home.

Plus, loading in custom waveforms... the quick import sampler/vocoder... it's an unholy alliance of sound generating options. The sky's the limit with this synth.

The bugs tho; they are nasty with 1.0. I can confirm all the bugs and oddities reported in this thread thus far.

And yeah, the demo is just awful. I don't know how I had the patience to put up with that, but I'm really happy I did.

+1 and i do have both electraX and dune. apart from the bugs it is a beast just waiting for tone2 to release bug fix update

right now i am not using it, but if they fix the bugs - yeah, it will be a beast.
Finally!

Liking it lots, but it's a bit too buggy to spend too much time with at the moment. Looking forward to a more stable version, as it's a great synth alright

I've listened to the demo sounds on the website. It sounds absolutely searing! You had me from the first THX Dolby sweep. Any dongles/dangles/dingles to tour the demo?

No dongles, but be prepared to get annoyed as hell. 10 minutes long with features that make no sense to disable because they are selling points unique to ElectraX that a potential customer would definitely want to try out.

At the ten minute mark, the synth will cease to work, and your internet browser will pop open and send you to Tone2's website. It's really almost insulting to anyone who is seriously trying to demo a product.

I would hope the backlash from this is enough for Tone2 to change that.

I had to be very, very patient with that. I would safely guess that 100% of the people that have demoed this have muttered "awwwwwww give me a f*ckin break!" after the second automatic browser interruption comes up.

But pretty much after scanning through the manual, within an hour I knew I needed this in my life. It's been a fun week and a half with it thus far... can't stop playing it. :D

For anyone who thinks that ElectraX is only good at Trance/Electro here is a demo that shows a different side. All sounds from ElectraX except the drum loop (that's GURU).

ElectraX Funk

It starts with single sounds then goes into a full arrangement.

First of all, let me say thanks to Tone2 for providing a easy demo (unlike some other companies - see my previous post). I didn't see any real limitations, except it did stop working after 10 minutes, but no browser window popped up. I don't know if that had anything to do with Chrome, or Microtrend Titanium Pro. The only other limit was, you can't load waves and you have to click through presets. If you click on the style type on the browser window, you can get through these pretty easy. I heard about the crashing issue, but the guy that reviewed it was using it in Logic on a Mac. TBF, I only used it in VstHost and not in a DAW.
Some of the vocoder presets sound funny. I don't know what that horrible bleating noise is - LFO ?
What I can say is that this synth, to me. rivals an Access Virus, and is about as close as anyone's going to get to making a VST version. I would never consider paying $200.00 for a softsynth, but I seriously thought about this.
I think it would truly be the only thing you need to produce music.
I'm going to watch for a sale, because I think even if it goes down by $50.00, I wouldn't hesitate to get it.
With the caveat - the buggy reports worry me, so I'd have to have a guarantee of a free update. No, here's an update for $99.00.
Tone2 MUST be aware of this, and I'm sure they are working hard to rectify it.
Congratulations to Markus and the team for making something that, for the first time in a long time, made me go oooohhhhh!!!!!!!
:wheee:
