Very sensible approach tbh, and I think you'll find plenty of ppl willing to support your work, everyone has to start somewhereadamtrance wrote:time to answer some questions:
The final working one will have less defined shadows so it should be easier on the eyes, and I also forgot the slider reflections in this image (because when the slider is in the bottom there is no black track anymore to reflect) that will be fixed too.
I have also updated to SM2, and that broke a few things so need to clear that up, and the biggest problem right now is that, I wanted a system where when you hover over a control it displays the info and value in the display. It works great, but when you automate a control and you hover over it, the whole thing crashes.
Right, so my plan is, as an (amateur) sound designer I always wanted to make my dream synth, and I am planning that, but first I wanted to make this. Therefore Id love it if I could get some support for my future projects, and I want to see what kind of interest people show toward my work. So I decided that I will have a free version that disables the lfo, and one layer, but its fully functional, and if people need the additional things they can get the full one for 30€ or something. (or a price thats reasonable)

Looks and sounds awesome so far! I love the GUI and it sounds pretty damn real. Does it even clip internally and sound like shit for no reason sometimes? (like the real JP lol)adamtrance wrote:

I like how you even 'aged' the GUI. Not many devs do that...xybre wrote:Looks and sounds awesome so far! I love the GUI and it sounds pretty damn real. Does it even clip internally and sound like shit for no reason sometimes? (like the real JP lol)adamtrance wrote:

I'm missing all my gear since its half a continent away right nowSo it would be nice to have a least a tiny little piece of a JP to keep me company until I can get mine shipped up here

Haha, yeh I wanted some fingermarks and dirt, plus a few scratches, so that the synth is used a lot

That's ok for a freeware version but I think that everyone who buys the commercial version would expect a brand new synthesizer not a dented or scratched one. I guess you could *maybe* get away with a scratch or two but it better not be circuit bent.adamtrance wrote:Haha, yeh I wanted some fingermarks and dirt, plus a few scratches, so that the synth is used a lot

The GUI is gorgeous, though I too think the "back and side panels" somewhat superfluous, it's a small thing.

Hmm... disabled lfo and layer would make it less than fully functional.adamtrance wrote:So I decided that I will have a free version that disables the lfo, and one layer, but its fully functional
IMHO compromising the sound (sound complexity in this case) is not a good free version crippling method.
Just make it limited number of voices or even mono and/or stop working after maybe about 10 minutes (it would require a reload), no saving presets... etc etc.
You know
Make it their new favorite and very often used synth and they will want to get rid of all the little annoyances i mentioned above.

I have to agree with Mutant. Take for instance SynthMaster 1.
Bulent did exactly what Adam said he would do, deactivating layers etc.
Demoing the synth in that state made me think "meh", it sounds so so, cause it sounded thin without all the beef.
I'd much rather demo a version that inhibits saving of patches or times out after X amount of time than having to demo half a synth.
Seems kinda counter intuitive... and I know there are devs who still use this method, Humanoid Sounds with SSP comes to mind (actually, T2 ElectraX as well), however, I don't really like the idea of demoing a synth if not all the bits are available to test. Unless there's something very specific I'm buying it for, usually I'd pass and rather buy something I can fully demo. I like to know what I'm getting.
Just my +2c of course

Adam was talking about a FREE version
so a free version is still very much welcome
that however i guess doesn't negate a possibility of a fully featured but time limited demo versionadamtrance wrote:So I decided that I will have a free version that disables the lfo, and one layer, but its fully functional, and if people need the additional things they can get the full one for 30€ or something.
