Demoed it. The compression algorithm in N20 looks like it uses about 5x the CPU as The Glue. That was enough for me to toss it into the recycle bin.

Has to be a bug. On the first preset "Lighthouse" I get a CPU load of 40% with spikes up to over 50% in Cubase 4.5. Regret that I bought the update...

tried this yesterday as i love psp stuff but never got nitro, got to say, still not feeling it yet.

seems a little fiddly. the basic idea i love, my favourite multifx is an ensoniq dp/4 (i have 2) and yet i find it easier to use despite the tiny screen.

i will persevere though as i do like the premise.

You guys are all a bunch of moaning minnies, this is a cool update, it sounds great and very inspiring, fantastic for sound design work. no CPU spikes here either.

One huge criticism I have for psp nitro plug is this:

Some of the presets nearly blew out my monitors and my ears. It doesn't make me happy at all. How do you come up with these presets? Do you just use a randomizer without checking the results? Very disappointing and makes your plugin a danger to use.

Everytime I change a preset in nitro, my heart skips a beat thinking the preset is gonna spike my monitors. It really kills the creative flow if i have to turn down the monitors everytime i switch presets.

So, atleast in this version - please do THOROUGH testing of your presets and switch between them to make sure that they don't kill the customer's monitors.

I agree on this, but there are DAW (like reaper) who automute a track if it goes over a pre-chosen db level..

Ok, having just paid $99 for VW2 (because VW1 does not run on Intel) which had otherwise no upgrade value (to me), I refuse to shell out $70 for another mostly meaningless upgrade.

The reports of the various problems here (spikes in CPU and db level) are the deciding factor.

Yes, please focus on USABILITY first before releasing a new product. You'll have a lot more eager customers than getting a half-baked version fresh out the beta.

I noticed that there is no additional savings if you own other plugins this time around. So I could pay 69 dollars now, or wait until after the savings period is over, and pay 99 with 33% off... bringing the price down to 66.

I guess there is no real incentive for someone who owns a number of their plugins to buy it now as opposed to some point in the future.

That said I'm sure I'll get it eventually.

Hm. No spikes when I run the demo, but I like the old interface better, where you could see what all four ops were doing.

One thing concerning this usability: I wonder why some developers launch interfaces which won't have "the next/prvious preset" buttons, this shouldn't be that hard to do but this makes life much easier. H.

Ok, as a Nitro-lover, I decided to sping for the crossgrade (after demoing it).

Initial thoughts:

1. CPU problem when the GUI is visible. CPU goes down dramatically when GUI is minimized/closed (but N2O is still processing). Tested on 2 systems, with different host-apps, with the same results.

2. No manual/help file (yet).

3. New FX. By my count, the new additions are as follows:
delay - updated stereo delay
distortion - replaces saturation
compexp - good basic comp/exp
reverb - disappointing as a "real" reverb, but perhaps more useful (in moderation) as an effect.
pitch - haven't played with it much, but seems pretty good.
phaseinv - basic tool, could be useful in creative parallel routings.
sidemix - might be useful occasionally...
rectifier - on/off, interesting, but a 1-trick pony
formant - liking this one
[EDIT forgot this one] eq - only 1-band, but can be morphed to 50% to create 2-band.


4. Really wish routing allowed 6-8 ops, but remains at 4.

5. 8 programmable knobs - excellent! should make control-surfaces/automation drastically better. Multiple destinations can be assigned to each knob, and the knobs can be named, but not everything can be modulated...

6. Step sequencer - should be fun, but again not everything can be modulated...

Overall, it's a nice upgrade, but not nearly as dramatic as I would have liked, and thus I think a bit overpriced. Hopefully they will add more in the future...

The cpu hit is higher than the previous version, but as buzzlegs mentions, it's a very creative upgrade but with cpu performance issues.

Might need to go to their forum and ask them as it's a bit slower than I would like.

I am running Vintage Warmer 1 on an Intel i7 920.

There was some weird issue that happened on install, but I found the dll sitting in a folder and put it in my Vst folder and all is well. Works perfectly.
