Really, really busy. The signature bit denotes a new job, and it's a heck of a job, loving the work, it's exactly what I want to be doing! But it somewhat cuts into my "screwing around on the internet" time
I got TH2 in recently to try out for the blog, waiting as patiently as possible for the patch to bring in the THD models before I do some thorough going-over but I already like the new Randalls quite a bit. I find it very interesting that Amplitube 2 had what I believe is the first ever manufacturer authorized amp model with the THD Bivalve model, and now Overloud is doing an authorized THD lineup. What I do know is that I really look forward to comparing the Overloud TH2 THD (that's a mouthful) models to the THD revamp in Amplitube 3, which I've used for recording most everything since it came out. My physical amp is a Univalve and it just sounds fantastic, makes pedals sound so lovely, and I find a lot of its nicer characteristics are represented in AT3 but it seems - I'm not sure of this, but just based on the level of distortion that it gets, it seems - that AT2/AT3's Bivalve is modeling the "Rock" preamp input, whereas I use the "Roll" (lower gain) one.
This is a very long way to say I'm stoked to see if I can get an even closer approximation of my physical setup in the virtual world. Of course, it comes parallel with me happily joining a really cool pedal maker that I've had a ton of respect for, so now I can probably afford a little cab that won't screw my back up moving it around like my 4x12 tried to before I left it when we moved, and I've been accumulating proper physical amp recording gear in the meantime as well, so it might be coming out just as I no longer need it so much. Still, I just freaking love amp sims. I love the versatility, I feel like I instantly know how to use them, I've always just connected with the whole idea from the first time I used one. I doubt I'll give 'em up just because I all of a sudden might not NEED them anymore, that would be silly!

I don't see what's so bad about Amp simulators.
There are some pretty crappy ones out there, but then there are also really good ones out there.
Just like there are crappy amps and pedals.

If I hear one cross word toward the Champ 600 Reissue I am likely to break into tears.
It's boxy and sounds like it's going to blow up but that's how it's SUPPOSED to sound, I love it for what it is

I've been playing for the past 46 years and I never met an amp I couldn't find a sweet spot on. Somewhere there's a sweet spot. I currently own 4 real amps (2 vintage tube and 2 SS) and have most of the current amp sims - commercial and freeware too... it's all good. Somewhere I always find a setting I can jam with. IT'S ALL GOOD when your my age - cause I came from a time when we appreciated any and all amps!
Now the proud owner of an avid 11 Rack, Running Pro Tools 10.3.3 - for me it's heaven!

You mean there is an emu that actually copies the sound of a blown up amp?!?!Agreed wrote:If I hear one cross word toward the Champ 600 Reissue I am likely to break into tears.

I'm sorry I cannot agree, there are some peaveys that no matter what had nothing good for me (that 'for me' being the important part). I'm not talking tweed but the solidstate amps made in the 70s, 80s and 90s sounded so plastic to me and I could hear it a mile away. (however at the same time their sound re-enforcement gear was top notch imho).strangedogs wrote:I've been playing for the past 46 years and I never met an amp I couldn't find a sweet spot on. FWIW I'm slightly younger than you but can echo your sentiment appreciating amps (just not those Peaveys), I remember dreaming my way through the Sears catalog and Lafayette Electronics catalog and then going into Boston to E.U. Wurlitzer to drool over the Marshalls, Fenders and Ampegs. I can still remember the feeling I felt when I first discovered how nice a little overdrive was with a tube amp and at that time my little overdrive cam from one of those blue MXR 6 band eq hiss boxes. Those were fun times to say the least

Also, eat at Joe's. That one's free, Joe's just a good dude.
To the gent above, I was referring to the real Champ 600 Reissue, which a lot of people think is god-awful (they are wrong).

how can one be wrong when they do not like something...you might not agree but how does that translate to 'wrong'?Agreed wrote:One might say that I've begun the path toward nirvana. It was a joke, people can feel however they prefer about the Champ 600 RI. I just like it, that's all.Hink wrote:how can one be wrong when they do not like something...you might not agree but how does that translate to 'wrong'?Agreed wrote:One might say that I've begun the path toward nirvana.
