Looking for a tool: I give it the notes, it tells me chord

Chords, scales, harmony, melody, etc.

I've seen a lot of tools online where I can select a chord, say C Minor, and it will show me the notes in that chord. But I'm looking for the opposite where I can show the tool E-flat, G, C, and it will tell me what chord that is. Does such a thing exist?

Thanks,

Sean

I'm pretty sure something like that exists but I think it's probably easier and faster to learn enough theory so you don't need to rely on extra software for that. It's pretty logical and straightforward once you get the hang of it.

Logic Pro does that. But it's wrong about 1/3 of the time with four notes. :o

Just in case you happen to have an iDevice, musys and Music Tool do exactly that. Musys even lets me whistle or play the notes, showing me how horribly bad even my whistling is.

I think I probably should pursue that. I'm using a lot of inverted chords though, and not just three notes, so it makes for an extra challenge.

Just click on the notes and it will suggest corresponding chord names.

its in the piano roll of cubase and nuendo.

finale does it also.

its always a tradeoff between whats technically correct and what will get the player into playing the right thing, often theyre the same.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
