One-word stage names aren't rare, but Sting and Bono are hardly proper first names... (though maybe they are by now, thanks to rabiate fans)

Anyway -- Prince, Madonna and, indeed, Björk were called that by their parents.

Ah, I got the wrong end of the stick. Snark duly retracted. :tu:

Who'd have guessed naming a kid Prince or Madonna would leave them so humble and lacking in narcissism?

Hope you're feeling better, Frank.

This thread is not dead, just waiting for me to recover from 'man flu'; will try and get a question up here tomorrow.

Special thanks to Barnadine for his concern; and I think Bjork must be waiting for me to collect her at the local parcels office...

You never get Joy Division songs on any karaoke machine I've ever had any dealings with (although, thankfully, that's been very few!)

[Edit: Just because it always makes me laugh, here's Bjork vs Diddy again...]

Sorry for the continued delay - question coming up shortly.

Sadly not. I did once 'sing' 'waiting for the man' by the Velvet Underground once in a pub to an ever so slightly nonplussed clientele though.

For my sins, I saw Paul Young at some stadium gig once where he butchered LWTUA, that was pretty karaoke...

Well, I'm a big fan, but it wasn't the answer I was looking for. However, if you can back it up with some facts, it may be better than the real answer (which is pretty lame to be honest; it's not one of my best questions).

Well, it's been slaughtered by better people than you. I seem to recall a particularly dodgy OMD version that's worth avoiding...

I remember that version. As we're in confessional mode, I'll admit I heard it before I heard the original; and I only sought that out because so many people said that Paul Young's version was shite. So I owe him something...
