Hello all,
I have become interested in high quality vocal libraries, and was curious if anyone here might know of possible alternatives to the VOXOS and REQUIEM products.

I know EWQL has a symphonic choirs library, but it seems to me that, while the Wordbuilder technology is unparalleled, the voices themselves are not quite at the level of VOXOS or REQUIEM.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I think those are the big three really. One other option is the VSL choir - it has some supporters, but less than the others.

I have EWQL, but if I was on a budget and starting from scratch I'd go for Requiem Lite, no question. Great legatos, a great sound and nicely versatile. Incidentally, Tonehammer also have a brand new children's choir library coming out this month that sounds absolutely breathtaking.

Yeah it sounds really good, I've already bought it and I'm waiting for the release on January 15th.

As far as EWQL, I have it and would not really consider it a true competitor to the 2 other ones that you mentioned (I also have both). It's ok but not as good in many ways.(IMO)

One that sounds also good but a bit old already is the Giovanni choir.

As you can see I'm a real fan of choir libraries...and even real choirs in general.(I've had the chance to work with many in the past)

That's a lot of money you spent there!

Out of curiosity, which do you believe has the softest mezzo-piano/pianissimo on the lowest velocities; Requiem or Voxos (dynamics is very important to me, and so I am looking for a good dynamic range, not just full-on epic).

Have you considered the Voices of the Apocalypse expansion for EWQLSC? I don't have it, nor do I have VOXOS or Requiem, but my impression is that VOTA is more comparable to the others than the stock EWQLSC library is (???). Maybe someone else who owns VOTA can provide some input.

Yes, I have the expansion. It definitely sounds better than standard SC for the big fff stuff. You can here this at the end of a piece I'm not crazy about I did here - http://www.box.net/shared/mmej9puxei (there's also a little Soprano in there too I think...) Both Voxos and Requiem will handle this kind of thing well though I think, from the demos I prefer the tone of Requiem for this use.

Can't comment on which is best for ppp, would need to compare them all really.

+1; fully agreed.

As a note though, I remember seeing a demo video where the VOXOS Sopranos didn't sound that different from the boys choir. The Sopranos sounded immature. I have Requiem Light and it's awesome. Great value. Love Tonehammer. Troels and Mike are my heroes. They are genuine, hilarious, and make a great and affordable product. They are also theifs in the night who have robbed my bank account of money

Indeed, but compare to paying a choir $2000 in one or 2 sessions...it's another thing.

As for ppp, I have not check for this especially. I am just giving an "overall" review. I also have the expansion for EWQL.

The fact is that I have use more the choirs inside Omnisphere and Giovanni than in EWQL on jobs in the past. As for the 2 newer one, I didn't have the chance to use them yet on jobs...but I know I will. In my first experiments I fund Voxos quite amazing on legatos. I also like Requiem Pro feel.

At the end they do have all their unique sounding though. I just love choirs and instrumental human voice in general.

What do you Voxos users do about the horrible jump in volume dynamic between B and middle C with the male voices? (the male voices sing very quietly up to B below middle C; then at middle C they practically scream, and the volume output of the playback jumps up to match. It's as though 2 different recording engineers worked on it without having any communication with each other. It's grotesquely unacceptable but they released it anyway and it's never been fixed. Is there a workaround?)

To tell you the truth I didn't use much Voxos, I still like better the ones in Omni for fast deadlines work.

What I could suggested, and I know it could be a pain, is to have two instances of Voxos at different volume starting at middle C, so that way you could correct the dynamics a bit.

I have EWQLSC, VSL (kontakt library), Omnisphere, Giovanni, Miroslav and a few other smaller choir libraries (like LadyVox and some DVD collections that I load into Kontakt).

I JUST upgraded all my EWQL products to the Play versions (I purchased all the bundles, so I will be getting VOTA as well), so I am waiting for those to be shipped, but I can say that i've used EWQLSC for many projects and it sounds amazing. I love Giovanni immensely, but it no longer works properly in Kontakt 5. I get weird cutoffs and hanging notes, so it is unuseable.

Anyone know how to fix this or if there is a Kontakt 5 update for Giovanni?

I have not used Voxos or Requiem, but believe me, I want them. I just cannot afford to outlay that much cash on choirs.

Of the two, which one is better and is the best choice on a budget Requiem light - or do I have more than enough choirs?

What do you all think about this?

it has to be a choir or soloist with a word/phrtase - builder (u type it sings)

max ammount of cash is 230 bux
