With all the control surfaces out there how can I not find one to suit my needs?

I distinctly remember thinking several times "oh no not another control surface, just what the world needs". So I thought when I finally want one there will be millions to choose from.... But no.

All I want is something very similar to a Mackie Control. The majority of the ones available now include audio interfaces which I dont need. Confusingly the Mackie's are the same price as the ones with audio interfaces so these are out of the question as well.

Strangely the one that suits my needs best is currently the Behringer BCF2000 but this doesnt have any rotaries (apart from the pans of course). And I dont really want the BCR2000 as well.

So all I want is motorised faders, transport controls, a few assignable rotaries, no audio interface and ideally sub £500. I thought there would be a billion options :help:

And will be using Cubase 4.5 (and beyond) with it...

I was looking for something similar

There's naff all available

A used older Mackie UC is the best bet. It's not got the USB connectivity of the newer model and communicates via MIDI, but it's pretty much the same feature set and within budget.

Yep this is what i'm currently looking at.
USB isnt necessary as I have a Steinberg MIDEX8 so not short of MIDI ports.

Just very strange that with all the products out there, there are nothing available new...

Bizarre :?

I've heard a rumour that Euphonix will be releasing PC drivers at NAMM so you might find one of those used within budget if rumours are true. I am of course assuming you're PC as you're using Cubase...otherwise you'd be using Logic on a Mac right?

You know the BCF2000's rotaries are 4 banks of 8, and can be assigned to whatever you need (not just pans)? In Live (using automap), the rotaries and top row of buttons are automatically assigned to whatever plugin is selected, while the faders and bottom row of buttons are assigned to track faders and record arm. The BCF2000 also features a "Mackie Mode".

At £125 you could buy two. :)

I suspected that might be the case, thanks for confirming.

However, my rather simple mind would like them to remain fixed as pans (ie they sit above the track(s) so they should be permanently pans IMO). Ideally i'd like another bank or a few rotaries which I can dedicate to other tasks.

Yes I completely understand this may not be logical to some people, but it is to me :D

Hi Mushy Mushy - my recommendation is for Frontier Design's AlphaTrack.
It is limited to one fader but it is otherwise excellent.
Fair build quality imo, has positive reviews and is a good price.

I have a Presonus FaderPort and I love it!

haha the irony. Literally sold my alphatrack on eBay at the same time you posted this.
I found the single fader quite hard to get used to and I was far quicker with the mouse so I never used it.
