I don't know if all the Soldano amps and thus Jet City amps have it, but my Hot Rod 50 has a recording/Slave out. The master volume seems to control the gain and tone as well when this is fed to my interface to use with a cab sim.

This USB out is on the cab only?

Post

This cab rocks. I am tired and I don't have the gumption to make (or the decibel allowance to record) a proper demo but I can tell you that unless it's programmed to explode in a year or something, it's a keeper, and a heck of a cab. It sounds way, way bigger than a lot of 1x12 combos or 1x12 cabs I've played. It isn't boomy and it doesn't woof out on low notes, plenty of chunk to the chug. The stock speaker does not beg a replacement, either. I think I'll leave it in there.

Back to playing it, heavily attenuated but it's a little bit weird to be back directly in touch with the sound again. It doesn't make me hate amp sims, but it does make me remember that the experience of using one is not identical to playing an amp into a cab. The feel is still a significant difference, as much as I would like that it weren't, as much as I've become able to compensate for it, consciously or otherwise. My pedals, my amp, class A power section, 1x12 closed-back cab - it's immediate in a way that even the lowest latency settings aren't. And, of course, it's very real.

The best amp sims do an excellent job of achieving a very close facsimile of a recorded amp. But this is real and they are not, that much is clear.

I decided I hate amp sims too. Of course then again it could just be me and my suck-wad abilities :hihi:

Can we get some blind tests in here so we can see how good people's ears are? If they can pick out the fake marshall/fender etc out of the mix vs a real one playing the same music? preferably high gain? I don't own any real amps anymore so I can't do this :(

Post

I'm in for this. But unfortunately, everytime I've tried to do one of these I get extremely low responses. I want to hear how bad as much as how good

Audio comparisons don't cut it, like a picture of a sports car vs actually driving it.
It's so easy, borrow a tube amp (no modeling toy), turn it up for 5 mins, then try to match that ITB for the next 5 hours, dry too, of course.

too easy to rig the demos too

I don't think that's quite right. I think that hearing what other people perceive as "good" or "bad" is helpful in many ways. Frankly, with the ear problem I had I'm not as sure of myself when getting guitar tones now. The specifics are not important, but a "reality" check isn't such a bad thing.

However this brings me back to the point that I'm not sure that other than a few regulars there will be enough feedback to benefit.

I am intrested in that iso cab for the money on the cab £399 over here will be good value. Is it a 12" speaker in there or a 10"? if it is a twelve it is basically bought already and being able to put whatever mic i like is great. Ditto on the USB out thing though although if it runs the XLR and USB outs at the same time it may come in useful to have but not necessary.

So if anyone knows if its a 10" or 12" please let me know :D

Thank you

Dean

In this case i am going to say YM Wont' V at all. It will be black and white/night and day and like everyone else i have dearly wanted it not to be the case...

it doesn't have mounts for 15 mics

Hi Dean,
It's 12", definitely.
I'm interested, too, of course.

The only gotcha - looks like another ripoff. :x  :x
$300 @ JRR sounds reasonable.
€479 i.e $622 stinks, even when factoring in tax.
And who needs the USB anyway ?
One of the reasons StealthPlug and Co are utter nonsense for anybody with an ASIO card, you can't have two ASIO drivers active at the same time, so how are you going to monitor while tracking ?

 you got me on that one! i reckon with some of my dodgy DIY skills i could fit a couple of extra ones in making it 3 on the speaker (and i will do if it is a 12" in that iso cab probably), or buy two. You are already giving me ideas which i am repressing until i have tried it with just the one in the box...oh and the 12" deal breaker of course :hihi:

Yes the USB is not at all a concern really, in that youtube thread people were moaning that Thomman sold them that iso cab but without the USB thing but that months ago  Thanks for confirming it is a 12" and rough esitmate of the euro damage...i may just make it the one my friend :)

Perhaps they will do a model sans USB AD/DA thing and knock a ton off of the price - that would be good!
