External instruments | Add Device | Presonus folder.
As a side note, to NAS's correct observation, Cubase actually does export GAO kits in two files, the data file which collects the samples in one file and a preset file which I assume is for the actual instrument settings, so he's right about "kits". I just tried it. I wonder if Reaper does that also with it's sampler?
Good stuff NAS, thanks.

Thanks Lawrence. Found it, now it appears as an option for MIDI input device, but how do I get it the window you have in the picture to appear? (Sorry about all of the questions).LawrenceF wrote:External instruments | Add Device | Presonus folder.
Edit: Never mind, I found it in the second-from-the-left black window at the top.

Actually, and i did say this in my original postLawrenceF wrote:There must be a host that does that with their bundled drum machine otherwise the comment makes no sense to me. That's all it was.
The reason i found this silly is because you cant load VST instruments into Artist, so you would expect the instruments to be fully equipped and being able to load in and swap soundsets would be part of that , especially if you have no way of using other instruments no ?
In Cubase or Reaper as you mentioned it would not be such an issue because you would simply just load a plugin.
Which was my original point if you read my post.

Again, with due respect, you can do that right now, it's just not as convenient (your point I fully agree with) as it would be if the instrument collected the samples for you after the fact and packaged them. So I'm not arguing with you at all about the value of that.NAS wrote:The reason i found this silly is because you cant load VST instruments into Artist, so you would expect the instruments to be fully equipped and being able to load in and swap soundsets would be part of that , especially if you have no way of using other instruments no ?

But you can collect, package, share, and use collections from others pretty easily. If you don't know where a sample in a kit came from, right click on the pad and select "Select In Pool", there it is... all of your drum samples being used in Impact are in the audio pool, which leads to the file system, so while it's a good bit more work (again, I fully agree with that:)) to get that done... it can in fact be done.
So saying "there is no way" to do that is simply not correct. That's all.
Maybe you should have just asked how others do it currently, work around that limitation? It is a workaround though and packaging would be much better.

Uh... ok. I thought (silly me) you maybe wanted to actually share Impact kits with someone or collect your kits / samples from there. If not, I don't get the point. If so, I can help you do that until they build a better (needed, agreed) method for it.NAS wrote:Erm no, i visited the forum, i read the posts concenring this

No comment on the other thing about "hating" on anything. I certainly know better than that and I never considered any such thing for any moment in time at all.
Best wishes to you man. The Internet really sucks at times huh? Context is very elusive.

interesting, So if I want to use ozone 4 for example. I give it a name of one of the allowed vst's? I would call it ezdrummer .dll and Ozone would come up?
but then You would have to lose one to gain one if I am understanding you correctly... is that what you mean??
Yes, but you can load Kore, Energy XT (Fullversion if you own it) or you take a Chainer (like XLUTOP Chainer) and rename it (for example in ezdrummer.dll).
With this way you can use your favorite VST. But i think the chainer is only a short help 'till upgrading to Pro, but it works.
Cheers

As an "Olive Branch" to this thread, where my only intent is to help, I'll demonstrate here for anyone who cares how to work around the limitation that NAS talks about, and he's right, it is a limitation that needs fixing and there has been some good discussions about it.
So, you've grabbed random samples from all over your hard drives to build a custom Impact kit and Studio One has no method to collect them for you into kit files automatically, which I hope will be corrected. In the meantime here's what you'd do... the workaround... it's based on how the daw works.
1. Load an empty song and an empty instance of Impact.
2. Open your custom drum kit / preset. Or just drag the preset for step 1, same thing.
3. Open the audio pool in the browser. You'll only see the files for the drum sounds in the kit there.
In the example below I've used sounds from the PreSonus package but it's all the same, they show up in the pool...

So there's no need to search your drives for the samples, they're all there already. So now you need to collect them in one physical place so you can zip them up with the preset file to make a "package" to share or move to another system.
Select them all and drag them into the song. It will create a track for every sample but it doesn't matter, they're going right back out...

Select drag them all (marquee select, not range select, CTL+A, select all) to a folder somewhere to make the collection. Below I've created a folder tab in the browser named "Impact Collections", made a new folder there for this demo kit, and dragged the samples there which renders them as new files to that folder.

Now, go to the instrument rack and drag the instrument instance to that same folder to create a copy of the preset there...

That's it. Right click in the broswer, click "Show In Explorer" and, if you want, select and zip the collection folder up and email it or whatever.
It's a workaround and it takes a few seconds for every collection but it works. If the preset can't find the files on first load on the new system, which happens, right click in the pool and "Locate Missing Files", point it to where the samples are, and then save / overwrite the preset.
So while certainly not as convenient as a function dedicated to that, not that much work at all. Long post aside, it takes about 5-10 seconds if your folders are already there to drop the stuff into.
Hope that helps.

Not if, as I said, you use a host plugin like Kore or Energy XT (or Bidule plugin which I've also tested) - with these you can load any plugin you want and build complex chains/multi's with them.jazzimprov wrote:"It seems as though it's simply a combination of a whitelist and fixed VST plugins path. I've inserted this but how do I get it to bring up the gui? So far even with it inserted hitting a key just seems to change the interface in various ways - not send notesLawrenceF wrote:Strange... can you post screen shots of your current midi track along with your device settings open?
Silly question probably ... but you do have the track monitor button turned on right? If you can play with the Qwerty keyboard and hear sound... your midi input should make sound also if it's making the track meter flicker.
