Ok, if the midi monitor is capturing (and showing note data), we're good there. Is the channel meter for the instrument track you're monitoring and playing into moving / reflecting the incoming activity when you play midi notes?

You should see an orange meter for midi activity. On the track.

If so, if it's metering when you play, and assuming you have the content, drop an instance of Presence on that track and tell me if you hear anything when you play and flicker the meter and if you don't hear anything, is there audio activity in it's output channel meter in the mixer when you play.
Yes the midi meter is flickering in time with my notes but using Mojito (I'm not going to download the Presence content) there is no audio output (unless I switch to my Ti drivers or the QWERTY keyboard)

"where do you install ezdrummer lite to ?
does it have to be installed with the ezdrum installer to S1/plugins
i read somewhere you can install it via S1 but it wants it on a dvd!
i'd like to stick it on a seperate drive where i have my s1 user data but will it be recognised?"

just install it,and then move/copy the ez drummer.dll to your vst folder, then studio one should find it

in options you can specify locations for your vsts etc

Ok... Hit record on the transport, record some midi notes on that track using that input, stop the transport, roll back and play it. Did the notes record? Do you hear the midi playing back?

Additionally, try it with Impact. Drop Impact into the track and drop some drum samples on it's pads (any wav file or any range selection from an audio file on the timeline, drag/drop) and try to trigger sound from that input.

Did you upgrade to Pro? If not, you won't be able to do much software synth based midi work without the Presence content. Mojito is good for some bass and synth lead lines and you can use your own samples in Impact but Presence is the synth you'll need for general midi or better sounds, given that you can't use third party synths.

No just Artist but I've already established that I can load the full Kore instead of Kore player so that covers all my needs (assuming I can get it to play)

Hitting transport records nothing - unless I switch to my Virus Ti drivers. Interestingly I've just tried 4 different combos:

Kore midi in/Kore ASIO
Kore midi in/Virus Ti ASIO
Virus Ti midi in/Kore ASIO
Virus Ti midi in/Virus Ti ASIO

and only the latter works which suggests to me there is something wrong with the communication between Studio One midi and audio when using Kore drivers (I do not get that problem in any other host)

As a general note related to the plug-in limitation of Artist, I would ask people to take an objective step back and look at Artist - in a neutral way - as an audio daw, not only as an electronic production tool that can't load Addictive Drums or Kontakt and similar.

In that particular context it's a great value and a different thing entirely.

The balance they struck there was to provide really good audio plugs so at the $20 price I would dare to say that it's subjectively the best value in an audio daw I've ever seen... contextually speaking for that target audience... with no upgrade to Pro.

There are no other functional differences from Pro in those other areas. Unlimited everything, inputs, outputs, busses, tracks, the same automation system in every regard, the same Control Link features, the same editing features and everything else. It's "Pro" without additional plug-ins, mp3 export, 64-bit DSP, hardware inserts, video and mastering... things the target audience doesn't generally need mostly.

Otherwise, it's exactly the same daw. If Pro gets lanes, folders, and other new things like that they'll also probably appear in Artist like they are now, like the automation transformer I think, and all of the drag/drop export features and the current unlimited track layers.

So there is a proper context there - for Artist by itself - which may not fit electronic music producers who already own instruments and plugs (granted) but for a band or musician who wants to record and mix the band or himself... unbeatable at $20 with no intent to upgrade at all.

Wait and (imo) watch how many of Pro's (editing and similar) features will appear in Artist as it develops. My guess? Mostly all of them excluding the things related to the project mastering screen which Artist doesn't have.

So the legitimate concerns about plugs are valid, but very contextual.

Just one Q, since i'm not in the mood wade through 10+ pages to find an answer in here...

Is this version capable of using own VSTi now or not?
Just want to know if my money is in good hands.

EDIT:
Looks like, it's not possible at all. Unless you can "cheap" NI Kontakt Player for "Kontakt Full" at least.

And, I'd love to know if v2 (Artist) updates will be free (aka lifetime upgrades) or cost anything. So far, I haven't found any trace of S1 Artist/Pro v2 being announced at NAMM.

You should probably report it there on their forum. It sounds like a bug to me.

There might also be someone there using that device who navigated a similar issue or experienced the bug or anomaly, so asking there would be your best bet.

The login there is the same as your PreSonus "My Software" login.
