KORG iMS-20, actually. But I agree, it's very cool indeed. Very good version of the hardware KORG MS-20 synth plus extra features that aren't even in the Legacy VST version. Help & support sucks, but the app is great, apart from no Sonoma copy & paste, and a few other minor issues.the dj wrote: iMS10
Mixtikl is really interesting, though the UI is diabolical, and the manual is a bit impenetrable at times. Only useful if you are into ambient music a la Eno though.
iReal Book - if you are into jazz at all, and want something that will let you practice playing jazz - just buy it. Chords for 900 jazz standards, with a player that plays very simple mixable piano/bass/drum arrangements of them. Not good enough for recording use but ideal for practising.
I've got iSequence - over-rated and over-priced IMO. Same for MultiTrack DAW.
I'll probably get studio.HD as well to complement MultiTrack DAW. It's vastly more powerful than MTD but has some limitations that MTD covers better. In all other respects it looks like it has MultiTrack DAW beaten hands-down.
I'd love to get Aurora Sound Studio HD - if it was half the price! Sort of like a Tenori-On or Monome, only on steroids. But A$47.99 - that's about 3 or 4 times the price of most music apps!

To be honest with the ipad i've not really found anything that compares to what you can do with a basic laptop. You can do different and more fun stuff (cos you can touch it) but when it comes right down to it if i need to get some serious work done it's back to ableton/sound forge/vaz modular etc.
Hopefully in time.

I agree with you, at present most of the developers don't seem to have
Any idea what producers and musicians really need.
Lots of amazing programmers with no clue how to make a complete mobile app.
Korg stll no audiocopy paste.
Lots of loop apps with no actual sample editing or ways to get folders imported.
Lots of loop apps like Ikmultimedia groovemaker with locked sample content
and no way to import user samples. fast buck.
Basically many apps are like going back to the start of vst development
where programmers missed out many essential functions.
Untill iOS devs hook up with testers and designers I can't see any change.
Plus we also have devs making old iPod touch apps and trying to bridge them with
IPad apps, ie they don't want to make them too powerful so they run on
old hardware.

I am more interested in the iPad as a controller, but it certainly is fun to play with music making apps.
I decided recently to forgo a personal laptop as I have an "engineering laptop" for work and don't want to have a second. So I use a powerful home-built PC for my main music system and an iPad for fun, multimedia, and control.
I am surprised that nobody has mentioned bleep!box here. It has been revamped for iPad to some degree, in particular the gui. I think that it is still essentially the same core as the iPod app though. Regardless it is rather excellent.
Incidentally, in the display field where I work the mobile market is the big growth area. We are just at the beginning of the growth curve. If you think Apple has become huge now, just wait for a couple more years.

I would have mentioned bleep!box if my brain worked and i had remembered it at the time
It is excellent tho i'm not that keen on the song sequencer. As far as the sounds it can create it is great.
Again it depends on what kind of music you are trying to make. If you want to make weird noise stuff then Jasuto Modular is great. Although Jasuto has sequencers n stuff i wouldn't want to attempt to make sequenced music in it cos it's just hassle. (back to the laptop)
