I have been trying figure of the main drum patterns in this song, but I can't get the right feel. Would anybody be able to make me a simple midi file outlining the main drum rhythm, or even just a TAB-like outline with text. Or any other way so I can figure out this pattern. Also, the bass line too, if possible. I just find this groove so infectious, and I want to completely understand it. Here is the tune....

By Drum tab, I mean if you can write it like this for example.

|----PLAY 4X-----|
H |-----------X-XXX|xxxx-xxxxxxx-xX-|
S |------------o---|----o-------o---|
B |----------------|o------oo-------|
Hf |----------------|x---------------|
|1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + |1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + |

I am not looking for the whole song's drum pattern to be transcribed, just one basic loop. However if somebody did a stellar job figuring out the Drums and bass parts, sure I would pay. What would be fair?

You've probably figured this out already -- assuming I'm correct, which I wouldn't be certain of -- but I think it starts out in 5/4 or 5/8 time. In which case there's a clue in the title To The Power of Five, something not unheard of for prog bands to do to show off their leet odd time sig skillz.

I got that by listening to the snare and bass: there's a short pulse with the snare, then a long pulse and counting along a quick taka takita seems to work. Of course, it might actually be the other way around and I'm counting it wrongly.

I'm not sure about later on, it sounds like it might slip into something else, but I can't figure out what.

As for actually working out what the drums are doing... sorry, I can't do that as I'm a mere guitarist/bassist/keyboardist

If it is 5/4 or 5/8 I'm impressed: any time I've tried 5/8 it always ends up sounding lumpen and wooden -- I can do 7/8 fine (which seems to be a Camel favourite) and 11, 13, 15 and 17, but I've never had any success with 5/8 and this sounds so natural and groovy.
And it is as it is and we take as we find / Always next season's buds on the bough / But I'll never find a better time / Hard though it is to allow / I'll never find a better time / To be alive than now
