Hi
I will probably buy an iPhone in a few months and off course, I want to be able to make music on it as well as anything else. I wonder what you think the best music apps are?
I have only tried out win-demo of the "Nano Studio" and it is indeed impressive. Does anyone know of any other quality apps in that league (synths, drummachines, studios)?
Thanks in advance.

Don't if this is the best, but here is an app I worked on.
Electro Beats
http://www.uvi.net/electrobeats_david-guetta_en.php
It's a MPC like drums machine with good sounding built in samples on iPhone/iPod and iPad.
The goal was to provide a fun and intuitive way to create good sounding beats.

Thanks for all the replies on this topic. I googled all of your sugestions and chose from my liking. I have bought an iPod Touch and collected what I think to be the best music apps (for my aims). I also bought the Synthstation 25 dock.
Most say I am a little surprised over the cons of using iPhone/iPad Toch. For instance that many apps do not support pasteboard transfer (..Yet?) and therefore you need to have a computer nearby to transfer files between the programs over WI-FI. That seems very un-mobilish to me
However I ended up with these programs, which all support pasteboard transfer:
1. Nanostudio(Synthstation 25 compatible)
2. Nlog midi Synth(Synthstation 25 compatible)
3. Xenon
4. iSequence
5. Beatmaker
6. Finger Bassline
7. iVoxel(Synthstation 25 compatible)
8. Four track
9. Compressor
10.Twisted Wave
These apps are more than enough to keep me going for years.
I did cost me three apps to discover the need for pasteboard transfer. So here are my regrets:
1. iSyn: Fairly good sounding synths with dynamic x/y controllers, but only wave export by WI-FI.
2. Rebirth: Only project-file transfer by wi-fi, so you need to have the PC version of ReBirth installed on your PC and then transfer to wave from that. Sloooow process
3. Randgrid: Very very fine sounding bassline with sequencer automation, bells and whistles and....
....no wave transfer AT ALL
And I have seen other good apps (e.g. Technobox) with no export at all. So fellow noobs: Watch what you are buying! And DEVs: Fix it ASAP and I am sure your sales will increase -at least with one copy
[Edit: Error! AKAI Synthstation does not support pasteboard transfer. I have replaced it with my Nlog midi Synth, which has both a loop recorder and pasteboard transfer]

Hi there,
Why don't you do what myself and others do, connect the audio output from your synthstation 25 to the inputs of your computer audio interface and record the results to your daw. Your DAW will be better at arranging and will have better effects than the iPod touch apps.

Because my aim is to make full productions on my iPod Touch while I am on the run. That is implied in the concept of a "mobile studio" to me. Thus if I need a computer nearby to finish my tunes, I have not really gained anything and could as well make the music on my laptop from the outset with no involvement of my iPod.thebaggytrouseredone wrote:Hi there,

Besides, if I want to use a DAW, I would not like to transfer by DA->AD conversion, even though some probably would like me to think that this make the sound more "analogue".
With the app mentioned (1-10), I can make it all on my iPod, but thanks for your concern.
Best Regards

Sorry I understand now, I didn't mean to cause offence. My appologise.
I only really use my iPhone as a sketch pad, sound module and sound source for sampling.
And no offence but recording via DA - AD to your DAW will not make it sound more analogue but infact will be cleaner. I record real instruments into my DAW, vocals, drums, guitar, bass, violin etc, I have no other way to get them into my DAW. It's the same with electronic hardware instruments, I have been using music technology for over ten years I've used both analogue and digital and all I care about at the end of the day is getting the best result possible in the quickest way, hence iPhone lol.
