I just put up a blog post with more ValhallaShimmer examples off of Soundcloud. At least one of them is fairly fresh, the one with the contrabass recorder. I had no idea that there was such a thing as a contrabass recorder...
EDIT: Apparently it is a "great bass" recorder, which isn't quite as deep as a contrabass recorder. These don't look like any recorders I've seen, as they tend to dwarf the person playing them.

Just bought this as it's gorgeous - just waiting for the key. Are there more presets for the full version?

Check your email. I just sent someone a keyfile.aMUSEd wrote:Just bought this as it's gorgeous - just waiting for the key. Are there more presets for the full version?
The presets are the same in the demo and full version. Kinda sparse, but I encourage experimentation. I might crank out a few more this weekend, in native DAW format (probably just AU and VST, as these are the most popular formats).

Yes that was me thanks. God this is beautiful - I'm wondering if I really need Aether now

They are totally different. I love Shimmer but Aether is much more versatile and natural sounding to me. I use Shimmer all the time for big smooth sounds and actually also for interesting diffusing sounds but if i want a more natural room or transparent hall i will go for Aether. In my opinion they compliment each other perfectly.aMUSEd wrote:Yes that was me thanks. God this is beautiful - I'm wondering if I really need Aether now

Sean, thanks again for this beautiful sounding reverb.
If you change something please keep it optional, because Shimmer is almost perfect for what it does.
I say 'almost' because of one thing: with big reverb sound I often need it to decay more quickly (Although Shimmer is very good for keeping the sound clear and not muddy). But maybe sort of forced decay parameter (optional) could be useful. There's a lot of workaround techniques but it would be a simple way. How difficult would be to code that or am I asking silly things?

Don't ever change the interface either - I really love how it looks - simple is beautiful

What you are asking for isn't silly, but it just won't work with the Shimmer architecture. You can get shorter decays by turning Size way down on the mediumStereo setting, or by using the smallStereo setting, but these may not give you the sound you are looking for. ValhallaShimmer's algorithms work great for producing long, clear decays, at the expense of shorter, more "realistic" decays.sonicpowa wrote: If you change something please keep it optional, because Shimmer is almost perfect for what it does.

In my mind, getting short to medium decays would work best with a different class of reverberation algorithms. I have some thoughts along these lines...

I'd love to see a HQ, balls to the wall plate verb from Valhalla! I love EOS, and knowing that you coded that with AD's wishes in mind, I'd love to see a plug that's 100% the result of your research and tastes. And there's a huge hole in the market for a killer plate reverb imho.

I agree. Those plates that just maim the sound are wusses.

Yep, looking for a big reverb sound with shorter decay, sort of like in QuikQuak's Fusion Field. But Shimmer is better and fortunately there's several workarounds.valhallasound wrote:You can get shorter decays by turning Size way down on the mediumStereo setting, or by using the smallStereo setting, but these may not give you the sound you are looking for.
EDIT: 'better' is a bit lame adjective; Shimmer is unbelievably awesome!.

+1 for the plate reverb.

Sending a Cello texture made by processing cello samples in Metasynth into 4 differently tuned Shimmerverbs (single mode/Big Stereo/-12/+5/+7/+12), sending all the Shimmers into a big Aethercloud, sending the Aethercloud into SoundToys Phase Mistress, processing everything with Ozone 4 and Pro-L.

Beautiful. The phase shifter sounds nice in there as well.Sampleconstruct wrote:Sending a Cello texture made by processing cello samples in Metasynth into 4 differently tuned Shimmerverbs (single mode/Big Stereo/-12/+5/+7/+12), sending all the Shimmers into a big Aethercloud, sending the Aethercloud into SoundToys Phase Mistress, processing everything with Ozone 4 and Pro-L.
