From the MU.LAB docs:
Click+drag to move part. Also hold [ALT] to preserve timing.

If I hold ALT at any time before/while the dragging process, the part becomes dark grey and I can drag it to nowhere...

I made a little vid...every time the grey alias jumps back to the previous bar, I hit the ALT key.

I tested what you described, works fine here.
Indeed the video link is broken, can't see what you mean.

Post

Indeed...link isn't working :(

Try this:

Open a new session and create a new sequence (without any content)...

Set grid to beat, move the sequence to 2nd bar,2nd beat...
Set grid back to bar...
Now I would expect, if I hold down ALT+click and drag, that I can move the sequence either to i.e. 1st bar 2nd beat or i.e. 3rd bar 2nd beat...

If I know hold down ALT click and drag the sequence and try to move it, the cursor turns to a hand, a dark grey "Shadow" of the sequence appears, snaps to 2nd bar and is not moveable any more, except to other tracks at the same position...

I sent you an email, with the video inside

Well it's working as intended: When holding [Alt] timing is preserved, i.e. you can only move it vertically, to other tracks.

Ok, then forget the email I sent you...
I thought it would keep the timing relatively, if I move the part on the same track...

Trancit

Right - I thought the same as trancit - that it would preserve the relative timing

So - it's another function I am missing - in EnergyXt it had a relative / absolute option for snap

how do I move anything relatively then? - eg: move or copy a part that starts just before a bar - to exactly the same relative place 8 bars later

The only way i see for now is doing it manually using a fine grid setting. I understand that if the part really is off grid, then this may not be easy, in such specific case. I've added a note on the wishlist to add the part position+length to the part property panel, so you will be able to do it that way, just like with notes in the sequence editor.

Post

Yes the property panel would solve it -

It is useful though to have an absolute/relative switch - then you can Ctrl/Drag easily

in the meantime I was able to just extend the start pos of the part to a suitable snap point and do it that way

many thanks Jo
