File: http://bit.ly/gX2ca0 (hoping this works)

Hi all,

This is the first time I have ever released a track on an unsuspecting public, so please be gentle :help:

It's a track I wrote a couple of years back when I was in an unhappy place at work. It's taken me that long to learn enough about music to get an idea from in my head and into real music. I've also changed departments and am reasonably happy at work now, just in case you were wondering 8)

It's made using:
  • BFD2
    Electri6ity (all guitars)
    Independence Free (Bass)
    Halion SE (percusion)
I know the obvious problem is I can't sing melody lines (I'm a bass in a choir of 120, I don't usually need to sing melody  ), but any feedback and pointers on arrangement, levels, EQ, effects, etc from the knowledgeable crowd here will be gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance for taking the time to listen and leave feedback,

Kosh

Just realised the Google one won't appear in the list of MP3's. Hopefully this will get a few more views and a little feedback.

Many thanks for listening,

Overall it's good... to me the vocals lack a bit punch considering the overall feel and lyric of the song... it's just my opinion, I'm no expert either...

It's a good song. I like the guitars a lot. The vocals could use a bit more punch, as satYatunes mentioned, and to my ear anyway they feel separate from the music, like someone singing over something rather than with something, if that makes sense. I'm not good enough at mixing, especially mixing vocals, to suggest a fix, but maybe someone else will.

On another note, unfortunately I don't think the new link will go into the Member Music list/player. It seems the direct link needs to be in the first post and only when first posted. I think that's how it works; it came up recently with someone else. You could ask a mod to lock this one and repost it with the direct link in the first post, maybe? Or a mod might have a different suggestion.

If I think of anything more helpful, I'll post again. In any case, I enjoyed the song, so thanks.

Many thanks for the comments. I agree that the vocals seem a little detached, but not sure how to fix it. I may try putting the vocal faders back to zero, deleting all the inserts, etc and try mixing them again. Or I may practice more and re-record first...

Thanks again,

Kosh

As I say, all the the guitars are all from Vir2's Electri6ity. Fantastic virtual instrument.

Slightly tweaked version:

Rolled backed the reverb and a bit of delay on the vocals to try and make them sit in the mix more. Also replaced the bass (just took delivery of Trilian) and sorted out some frequency conflicts between the bass and kick.

Thanks for listening.

A definite improvement on the vocal part fitting-in-wise. I'd forgotten that you mentioned sorting out the low end, and while listening I thought it sounded better than I remembered it sounding, so a noticeable improvement there too.
