Is it really a great app or is it just great because it's on the iphone/ipad? I can't help thinking there's a certain novelty value attached to all this stuff. I really like the look of the Korg Electribe & i-MS20 on the ipad. The Reactable app looks awesome as well But I think I'm trying to justify an ipad rather than the products I want to run itpolaris20 wrote:Any app with a stereo output and/or stereo input, such as Multitrack DAW, Looptastic HD, StudioTrack, etc should work fine. Multitrack DAW alone is worth it to me. It's a great app.

Aye, the apps themselves do tend to fall short of what you can do on a basic laptop tho i expect with time that will change.

I expect so to. But currently i-MS20 & the Electribe apps are the pick of the bunch by far I think. Not a great deal else to warrant an ipad for music & even less to warrant the Studio dock at this present time.the dj wrote:Aye, the apps themselves do tend to fall short of what you can do on a basic laptop tho i expect with time that will change.
Don't! I got addicted to that on my wife's iphone. Hardly put it down until I'd completed every sheet ...... then more appeared!! Bloody addictive little game that.Angry Birds on an ipad is great tho

Actually they are not. The audio line-in on the dock-connector has beenadydub wrote: The a/v connections via the apple dock will remain the same between versions,
discontinued for the iPad, the iPhone 4 and the iPod touch 4.
That is the reason why those external mikes available for iPhone / iPod Touch
prior to to V4 won't work with the new devices anymore...
So I think that the audio-I/O is done via some kind of embedded camera
kit connection within the Studio Dock...

I have to say i'm really disappointed in the Electribe app. It needs to be more editable and have the ability to load your own waveforms/samples. As it stands it's quite basic.Dogboy73 wrote: I expect so to. But currently i-MS20 & the Electribe apps are the pick of the bunch by far I think. Nanostudio is far better imo.
i-MS20 is great, something to really spend time learning.

Well, that's a good question. However it needs to be taken into context. It needs to run on a 1Ghz ARM processor with 256MB of RAM.Dogboy73 wrote:Is it really a great app or is it just great because it's on the iphone/ipad? Now, knowing that, does it sound good? Yes. Is it easy to use? Yes. Does it have the features I require for multitracking in the field? Yes. Can I quickly offload it to the Internet, e-mail, or other method? Yes.
So to answer your question, while it's not as full featured obviously as even GarageBand, for $15 it's a very good value.
If you compare it to the standalone crap from Boss or Zoom, I can't imagine preferring that to recording on an iPad with MTD and the Alesis.

I suppose this depends what you personally find inspiring and/or useful.Dogboy73 wrote:...But currently i-MS20 & the Electribe apps are the pick of the bunch by far I think. Not a great deal else to warrant an ipad for music & even less to warrant the Studio dock at this present time.
Right now I'm liking:
iMS20
iElectribe
ThumbJam
NanoStudio (super dooper awesome)
NLog Pro
M3000HD
Morphwiz
Amplitube
TouchOsc
TouchAble
There's a load of other stuff I've got that are really just fun toys (but still cool), but all the above is solidly useful. There's a ton of apps I've not tried yet that look good such as reactable, rebirth, looptastic HD, bleepbox, Music Studio etc. etc.
The other thing to consider is that when using the iPad as live - either for instruments or as a controller (RIP Jazz Mutant), the Studio Dock looks like it could also rather handy.

I know most of those but the ones I don't I'm going to check out. Cheers for listing those. Incidently I was wondering if there was a definitive (or as near as you can get to it) guide for music apps on the ipad? Looking on YouTube or in the app store is a bit random & I'm not getting to see everything that's out there. Music Radar run the odd 'top ipad/iphone music apps' features ocassionally but they are not exactly comprehensive only featuring a handful of new apps.adydub wrote: Right now I'm liking:

Speaking of Jazz Mutant - I thought the Jazz Lemur looked very interesting when I first saw it. The price was pretty impressive as well! With the ipads obvious application as a controller, running the likes of TouchOSC, it could be seen as an affordable alternative to the Jazz Mutant stuff (doing my best to justify an ipad hereThe other thing to consider is that when using the iPad as live - either for instruments or as a controller (RIP Jazz Mutant), the Studio Dock looks like it could also rather handy.

There are always rumors.
IF iPad 2 comes out soon, then the older iPad 1's will be cheap, and have already proven to have enough horsepower to run a ton of apps.

Of course. But it seems to be a pretty strong rumour;siriusbliss wrote:Those are still pics of iPad 1. There are always rumors.

A mate of mine, who is an avid Mac Man, believes that the ipad 1 will almost become obsolete overnight such will be the buzz around the ipad 2. He's got a point. I've noticed iphone 3's can be sourced for free on certain mobile contracts. This has been the case since the iphone 4 was launched. The cheapest way to get the iphone 4 is still either paying a lot for the phone or a lot for your monthly contract. I've also read about newer apps that struggle or don't run at all on the older iphones. With this in mind who would go for an ipad 1 once ipad 2 is on the market? ipad 2 is expected to cost the same as the ipad does now.IF iPad 2 comes out soon, then the older iPad 1's will be cheap, and have already proven to have enough horsepower to run a ton of apps.

...... I guess it died before it even came out!!!
I e-mailed DV to see if this would work with ipad 2. They said yes but it wouldn't fit as snug because ipad 2 is obviously thinner. So in other words the Alesis IO is obsolete 5 minutes after release!! Not unless you want your ipad 2 slipping out of it everytime you move it. Epic fail for Alesis. Real shame. I wanted this to work to sell me an ipad. Still waiting for a reason to buy one. ipad 3 probably would have come & gone before one comes up
Needs not wants.

I figured this would happen, because you can't count on the shape of the iPad remaining constant, whereas the dock connector will remain the same, most likely. Alesis should have just come out with a dock-connecting interface with the same IO, but in a box to cable format.Dogboy73 wrote:...... I guess it died before it even came out!!!
