Quite impressive such power in a small device with adequate software!

It's like the power of my old Pentium-4 DAW in a small box. Take it to the iPad for some significant amount of screen estate and well ... another generation of tools AND musicians are here.

When can we expect the first commercial hitsong made entirely on an iPhone? (iPad?)

They said the iPad version is coming shortly. I don't own an i anything, but what the hell, maybe I'll break down and buy one.

I read alot, and I'm already condidering a Kindle reader, so for the extra $, although considerable, I might as well go all the way to an iPad. If this app came for a desktop or laptop pc I would get it today.

I guess you're talking about the Motorola Xoom with Honeycomb (android 3.0).

That sounds like a nice machine but Verizon seems to want it to fail: $800 plus activation fees = about 850 USD which is a crazy price for a tablet. Granted, the high-end iPad costs almost as much BUT there are much cheaper Wi-fi only versions of the iPad.

Don't get me wrong, I love Android (my smartphone runs on it

) - the widgets, the relative openness etc. but with tactics like these, the Xoom seems destined to fail. Even if the UI is way ahead of the static-grid-of-icons-iOS.

Also, Google really needs to concentrate on low-latency audio performance because right now the situation is a mess (which is reflected on the available music apps for Android - the situation is woeful in that department even if lately the Android Market seems to be getting some awesome applications).

We'll see. I'm not getting a tablet (not a fan of the form factor, at least for the time being) but Apple needs some real competition in this sector.

It really is all about the apps. The iPad wasn't that exciting to me til I got one as a gift and started playing with things like TouchOSC, Reactable and iMS20. I could careless who makes the device, it's all about what it can do. If developers dropped the iOS platform in favor of Android or something, I'd probably be less enthusiastic about the iPad.

I love my viewsonic gtablet and at $350, it's a good price for a 10.2" 2.2 android tablet with a nvidia tegra dual core processor and 1080p video with hdmi.

Music apps are beginning to emerge and I am going to be developing for Android phones and tablets - now that new languages and libraries have been produced for faster audio and graphics handling, not to mention Android 2.3 which gives you more robust audio and video capabilities with near zero latency, watch out iphone/ipad!

I have Nanostudio on my iphone and it's too small for my fingers.

I've heard a few people complain the audio and midi implementation in Android is a bit rudimentary compared to idevices. What are the new libraries (and languages!) you're referring to? Android's likely to be more widely adopted than iOS in the coming years, so it will be great if the platform is starting to mature for music applications.

I'll switch DAW if Propellerhead ever makes a Reason iPad app. As long as it's compatible with the full version, the sound wouldn't even have to be as good because we could render down on our PC's/Macs.
